Montenegro is one of the countries of South-Eastern Europe, located on the territory of the Balkan Peninsula. Conventionally, this small state can be divided into three parts - the first part on the eastern side of the country form the mountainous areas, the second part forms the territory of the sea coast washed by the Adriatic Sea, and between these parts is the central lowland area.

The continental line of the coast, belonging to Montenegro, occupies about 300 kilometers, but, in addition, 14 small islands located in sea waters are also included in the state. The state is famous for its beaches, their total length is 70 km. The water in these regions is very clean and for 7 months a year it is in the range of 12 to 25-26 degrees Celsius. The climate in Montenegro is moderately continental, with warm long summers and short warm winters.

Description

Petrovac is a urban-type resort village located on the sea coast of the Budva Riviera, which is well known for its wonderful beaches. Montenegro is considered an ecologically clean country.

A distinctive feature of this resort is that it has a healing sea air.. Olive and pine groves are located around the city, and you will find exotic plants everywhere - tangerine trees, kiwi, figs, palm trees and oleanders grow in the city. The resort is very well located in a small sea bay, where it is protected on both sides from cold winds and bad weather by high mountain ranges. It is because of this location on the beach creates a pleasant microclimate - The weather here is mostly warm, windless and sunny.

Petrovac belongs to the municipality of Budva, and the number of inhabitants inhabiting it ranges from 1500-2000 people. In summer, the small town comes to life because of the influx of tourists. On the territory of Petrovac there are two beaches - Lučice and the Central City Beach. The distance between these beaches is 500 meters.

Lučice
Central

The territory of the city beach has a length of up to 600 meters, so at the very peak of the swimming season it is sometimes cramped here. The beach itself is sandy-pebble, the sand has a reddish tinge, and the pebbles are small but sharp. The entrance to the water is smooth, without sudden drops, but after 3-5 meters the depth becomes large enough and for children it can be dangerous. The beach area is equipped with showers and locker rooms, where professional rescuers constantly watch the bathing people from the tower.

Entrance to the beach is freeyou have the choice of relaxing on your beach towel or renting a deck chair and umbrella for about 10-15 euros. There is car parking in front of the beach and, if you wish, for a small fee you can get the opportunity to drive straight to the beach and park there.

The line near the city beach is conveniently planned - there are cafes and restaurants, small shops and souvenir shops within walking distance. The well-planned embankment runs along the sea coast and rests on a small pier - from here you can go on a small voyage on a small boat and see other cities and beaches of Montenegro.

Relaxing on the beaches in Petrovac, you can enjoy water skiing, catamaran, hydro-scooter and banana.

The beach Lučice has a length of 200 meters. Although it is smaller in size, some vacationers love it more for the reason that the pebbles there are small and round in shape. During the summer season there is much less rest on this beach. There are no large restaurants on the coastal territory, only small but pleasant places in the form of a cafe. And if you order food or drinks from them, they can give you a deck chair and an umbrella for free.

There are few hotels near this beach, it looks quieter and more secluded in contrast to the noisy city beach. It is noteworthy that from this territory there are picturesque views of the stone cliffs and the sea. For kids on the beach, there is a playground and a water slide, which ends on the slope with a small pool.

The infrastructure of Petrovac includes a post office, a police station, a medical center, several churches, a grocery market, a supermarket and many cafes and restaurants for every taste, there is even a nightclub within the walls of the old fortress. There are a lot of different hotels and villas, so the city is considered one of the most beautiful and well-kept in the Budva Riviera.

In the sea, on a small island located directly opposite the city, there is a small old chapel, so in the mornings you can enjoy the clean and joyful sounds of a bell chime.

Climate

The weather in the resort of Petrovac has its advantages - in the year here about 300 days are sunny. Even in the off-season it is nice to be here and enjoy the fresh air, the sun and the beautiful sea landscapes.

What to see?

In Petrovac, there are not only beaches. If you love outdoor activities, then you will be interested in the sights of the city, which will be informative entertainment for both adult tourists and holidaymakers with children. Walking around the city, you will see how oddly there are combined oaks and pines growing next to palm trees.

First time visiting Petrovac, start exploring the city, passing along its famous 3 km long pedestrian road called the “health trail”. Walking slowly, you can breathe the clear pine and sea air, heading for Rezevici. On your way you will meet 3 pedestrian tunnels that pass inside the coastal cliffs. Go inside more boldly - although the tunnels have a long length, they are well illuminated inside with electric lamps.

The Venetian fortress is a symbol of Petrovac. The time of construction of the fortress Castello consider the XVI century. In those days, these lands belonged to the Republic of Venice and the fortress housed military barracks, as well as warehouses for storing provisions.

According to historical data, the basements of the fortress contained captive slaves who were being prepared for resale to European countries.Later, the fortress was used as a hospital, where people brought in by the plague were brought, and during World War I there was a prison for the military in these walls.

Today this place is much more friendly - the building rises above sea level, and, rising to the walls of the fortress, you can see a beautiful view of the city itself, the central beach and Lučice.

Inside the fortress works Museum of Fine ArtsThere are rare ancient samples of Roman mosaics, paintings, and on the walls of the fortress there are Byzantine medieval paintings. The museum exhibits that date back to the III century BC.

On the viewing platform you will see a memorable stella, which was built after the Second World War in honor of the soldiers who fell, defending their homeland. On the perimeter of the observation deck once located guns, aimed muzzle toward the sea and designed to protect the city from uninvited guests. Now only one such tool remains in its place.

On the territory of the Venetian fortress there is a large restaurant and the only night club Castello in the whole city, where behind thick walls noisy discos take place. This club is known throughout Montenegro, as well-known pop performances take place here, popular DJs work.

Quite often, so-called Russian parties are held at the club, when Russian pop music is played all evening.

Monastery complex - orthodox GradišteIt is located 4 kilometers from Petrovac and is considered one of the largest and most important monasteries in all of Montenegro. This historical monument has 3 temples, a building with monastic cells and a cemetery.

In the ancient chronicles of Gradište it was mentioned already in the XIV century, but it was built much earlier, but the exact definition of this period is no longer possible. The complex is not only a holy place, but also a collection of medieval fresco painting exhibits.

Upon entering the territory you will be met the Cathedral of St. Sava, which has 3 belfries and a rare beauty carved iconostasis. The walls of the cathedral are lined with rows of red and white bricks. From the south, all the paintings on the walls are dedicated to saints Savva and Simeon, and on the northern side of the building there is the face of Mary of Egypt, popularly referred to as the “Petit Shopkeeper”. Young women who have recently given birth to children, bring here gifts in the form of olive oil and grapes so that with the help of holy mercy they will have more breast milk for feeding the child.

In the center of the monastery complex is located St. Nicholas Churchwhere, in addition to icons, all the walls and ceilings are painted with ancient frescoes. Built next to the cemetery small church in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Inside this church there are also ancient frescoes with the faces of saints.

Because of the neighborhood of Montenegro with the belligerent Turkey, the monastery complex was walled with loopholes for cannons. Repeatedly the clergy had to fight against the Turks and one of the exhibits in Gradište is the skull of the Turkish pasha, which is kept as a warning to all the invaders.

At all times of its existence, up to the Second World War, the monastery devoted much effort and attention to teaching children who came to study from all the environs. The holy places suffered greatly during the First and Second World Wars. However, the cultural heritage of Montenegro was restored by contemporaries and today it is protected by UNESCO. Monastery Gradište today is the current male holy abode of the Orthodox community of Serbia.

The Island of Holy Week (in translation into Russian, the name of the island means “Holy Sunday”) is visible from almost anywhere in the city when looking at the sea. At the very top of the rocky island, a small wooden chapel was built.According to an old local legend, the inhabitants of the city believe that it was built by a sailor who miraculously escaped on this island during a shipwreck and, in gratitude to the holy forces, erected this building with a bell.

During the earthquake in the late 70s, the chapel collapsed, but was rebuilt again. Now this place is a sacred talisman for all sailors and a favorite entertainment for tourists. Boats and catamarans with tourists, who come to the chapel and ring the bell from the bottom of the heart, constantly moor to the island.

The monastery complex Rezhevichi is a male Orthodox monastery located near the town of Petrovac at the foot of Mount Voshtanitsa. The complex consists of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Church of the Holy Trinity, the buildings of male cells and outbuildings, and around the monastery there is an old olive grove.

According to historical data, the construction of the monastery was carried out in the XII century and it began with the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, and later other buildings were added, in particular, St. Stephen’s Church was erected, which was later lost during the battle with the Turks. Later in its place a new temple of the Holy Trinity was erected.

The walls of the churches are decorated with medieval frescoes that have value for all Orthodox.

The monastery complex was significantly damaged during the Second World War and the earthquake in the late 70s of the last century. After a long restoration work the buildings were restored. and are now under the protection of UNESCO.

The main values of this monastery are the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, created in the XVI century, the Ritual Cross, created in the XVIII century, the Fourth Gospel of the XVIII century and the tabernacle of the middle of the XIX century. Near the monastery is located observation deck in the form of terraces, lined with stone - This is a favorite place for newlyweds who are crowned in the temple and go here to admire the beautiful landscape.

      Reviews

Studying the reviews of those people who visited the resort in Petrovac, we can conclude that the rest here is calm and pleasant. The bulk of holidaymakers come here from Russia, and the rest are Europeans. Russian people feel comfortable here - in hotels and cafes the staff speaks Russian or English, so there is usually no difficulty with understanding.

Hotels and apartments are designed for a small number of guests, which creates a comfortable atmosphere among holidaymakers. Housing prices are very diverse, but in Petrovac they are higher in any month of the season than in nearby towns, for example, in Budva. Petrovac differs from other places by the fact that a special atmosphere of peace prevails here. Life here is flowing smoothly and leisurely, vacationers leisurely walk along the promenade, drink coffee in a cafe and dine in restaurants. The beauty of the surrounding Petrovac nature enhances the feeling of peace and comfort.

There are many holy cloisters near Petrovac, and people of the Christian faith value these places not only for the possibility of a spa holiday, but also for the introduction to the Byzantine ancient culture. A trip here will be an excellent informative tour that will leave an indelible impression in your memory.

Visiting such places, you can forget about the bustle and immerse yourself in the contemplation of the surrounding beauty, reflecting on the eternal life values.

It will be a pleasure to rest here for those who are looking for peace and tranquility - married couples, older people with grandchildren, newlyweds, couples with small children. If you are looking for vigorous activity, adventure and fun, then you will have to look for more lively corners of Montenegro. However, most of those people who have spent their holidays in Petrovac at least once, either return here again and again, or plan to do it in the near future. These places fall in love at first sight, and such love lasts forever.
