Going to the resort Mogren, you can not ignore Old town of Budva, in which collected many historical monuments of Venetian architecture of the Mediterranean. The old town was founded in the XV century and was located on the coastal spit, leaving the sea. The historic center of the city is surrounded on all sides by strong walls of solid stone. Today it is a real open-air museum, behind the walls of which many artifacts have been preserved, and their search continues to this day.

Old Budva, with its narrow streets and houses of red tiles on the roofs, annually receives guests of any nationalities.

The hospitable city provides an opportunity for everyone to visit the magnificent Adriatic coast - Mogren. Mogren Beach consists of two coves Mogren I and Mogren II, located in the northern part of the city and separated by a rock. This place is the most romantic and main attraction of Budva. It is located on the southeastern part of the coast, 2 kilometers from the Old Town, among multi-layered rocks, ancient buildings and stunning panoramas.

The landscapes of Mogren are very beautiful, the road leading to them is especially impressive. On the left, the sea waves beat on a small cliff, and on the right, steep cliffs hang. In order to approach the coastal zone, it is necessary to walk along a narrow path through a small grotto. All along the way, gaze to the beautiful landscapes of the Old Town and the island of St. Nicholas.

Popular object of excursions - uninhabited island of St. Nicholas (the local name is "Hawaii" or "Shkol") is located 1 km from Old Budva and is perfectly visible from the coast of the Mogren beaches. The total length of the island is 840 m, these include 3 large sandy beaches and many small, located around, which can be reached only by boat.

The water in the coastal zone of Budva is very warm and clear, through it there is a pebbly-sandy bottom. For this feature in 2004, Mogren Beach was marked with the “Blue Flag”. Mogren Beach occupies a special place among the objects of the Budva Riviera - it is fenced off from the bustle of the city by a mountain range. Spectacular landscapes, water-blue and a warm sandy beach will not leave anyone indifferent.

Montenegrin legislation allows only 50% of the coastal area to be occupied by sun loungers, which makes it possible for people to sit comfortably on the sand or their own rugs without paying for a sunbed.

Title history

The resort Mogren owes its name to the Spanish navigator Mogrini, who was shipwrecked near these places and was thrown onto the shore of this beach. Also, according to local legends, a church named after the Roman Catholic Saints Anthony of Padua was built by the same sailor on the seashore.

Unfortunately, it has not been preserved to our time, since it was demolished by the communist authorities after the Second World War. Today, the place of the church is a cozy cafe.

Path to the beach

The most convenient way to get to Mogren Beach can be on foot, since by car you can only get closer to Budva on the route number 2 through Obilaznica.

On foot, you can reach the beach by two paths:

  • along the sea, leading from the Old Town - this is a road for tourists;
  • from the old fort Mogren - this is the road for adventure travelers.

The path to the beach begins in the north of the Old Budva Square. The square has an entrance gate, behind which begins a narrow path for pedestrians. This trail offers a magnificent view of the Old Town and the Richard Chapter beach, named after the actor Richard Widmark, who played the main role in the film shot on this stretch of the Budva coast in 1963.

Walking along the cliffs, you can see a monument to a sophisticated ballerina or gymnast. However, nobody knows the exact name of this statue and its history. One thing is for sure - it is an image of love, faith, hope and a symbol of Budva. Rounding the powerful stone cliffs, the road enters the first cove, where Old Budva looks great from this angle. Mogren І is also here.

On the narrow path leading into the tunnel, you can go inside the cliff and go to the next beach - Mogren II. The path to the second beach is very narrow, and sometimes slippery and flooded with water. Moving on it, you should be careful and attentive. From the distant part of the Mogren II coast, the path to the rocks begins - it is more difficult and dangerous.

The total length of the beaches is 400 m, the entrance to the territory is free, only the rent of a sunbed is paid. On the beach there is all the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable pastime. Comparing the beaches of Mogren I and Mogren II, it can be noted that The first beach is much more equipped for a tourist or family vacation with children. There are cafeterias, unleavened shower, toilet, changing rooms. The shore here is more even, sand and pebble. In addition, the beach provides boat and catamaran rental services.

Mogren II beach has a more rocky shore. Because of the difficult road here, you can rarely see vacationers with children and comfortable conditions for recreation provided less than on the nearby beach. The coastal zone of Mogren II is littered with coarse sand and pebbles, and in the far part there is a rocky path to a steep rock. To move in this direction should be comfortable shoes and observe the utmost care.

Having overcome obstacles from stones and having found yourself on the top of a cliff, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Old Budva and sheer cliffs. From this point, begins the so-called secret path leading to the ancient fortress Mogren, built in 1860 on the orders of the Austro-Hungarian authorities.
