Chihuahua is a breed of cute little dogs that has several varieties. The most popular of them are furry cobbies and short-haired dir. Children of the second type look like deer, they were called so - deer, which in English means "deer". In Russia, these babies are few, since larger long-haired cobbies are popular with us, but residents of the North American continent have the delicate grace of dirs to taste.

There are several versions of the origin of the Chihuahua breed. One of them leads to the jungle on the territory of Mexico, where even before the discovery of America there were dogs of Lech. They were long-haired and larger than modern chihuahuas. From the 9th century AD, the territory of modern Mexico was inhabited by the Toltec people, who tamed leechs.

At first, dogs were used as food, then as helpers during a hunt. Found the graves of the owners along with the dogs. In the XII century, the Aztecs ousted the Toltec from their lands, they adopted the customs of the expelled people and continued to use dogs for hunting and as ritual burial places.

By the middle of the XVI century, the Aztec civilization was destroyed by conquistadors, domestic animals were also brutally destroyed. It was possible to survive only parts of dogs that fled to the jungle and eventually became wild. Much later, the Mexicans again tamed forest animals. In the middle of the XIX century, Americans became interested in cute small dogs and began to buy puppies from local residents.

There is also a second, European version of the origin of the breed of small dogs. Breeders have discovered that chihuahuas are born with a neochenic fontanelle, just like breeders of the Mediterranean island of Malta, located not far from Italy. As proof, supporters of this theory brought a painting in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, where the Italian artist Botticelli painted a boy with a dog, very much like a modern chihuahua.

The painting was made in 1481, before the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. Geneticists put an end to the dispute in this question, which confirmed the kinship of the lecterns with the modern look of miniature dogs.

In 1923, the United States was created First National Chihuahua Club, at the same time, they made up the official standard of the dog, which referred only to the smooth-haired look. In 1954, the British Chihuahua Club developed the second standard (with two varieties) of this animal.

The little dog-deer is so light and graceful that during the run it seems to hover above the ground, as if its legs do not touch it. According to the breed standard, the size of the animal should not exceed 23 centimeters at the withers. Weigh babies from half a kilo to three kg. Chihuahua looks like this.

The psyche of Chihuahua dogs is not stable enough, it becomes clear a year after birth. Animals can exercise short temper, irritability. In this regard, the cobby is more docile and calm.

Mood changes are perhaps the only flaw in the character of these babies. Their meritorious quality is the courage with which they rush upon the abuser of the host. Despite the apparent fragility, Chihuahuas are quite hardy and strong. They become attached to the owner, can get along with all family members and pets, but are wary of strangers. Dogs are mobile, playful, inquisitive and intelligent enough.

Chihuahua dir is not created for the street, such a dog can only live at home. But for a walk it needs to be deduced as it is with all dogs. Do not do this in winter. During the off-season temperature decrease, the pet is put on special clothes.

In the pet's diet can be special industrial feed intended for small dogs. But often the owners feed them with natural products: meat, boiled fish without bones, porridges. Vegetables are added to one third of the dishes, mixing them with meat and cereal.
