On the territory of the Crimea there are several palaces that deserve the attention of tourists and architects. Among them, one of the brightest representatives of Moorish architecture is Dulber.

Story

The Dulber Palace, designed by Nikolai Krasnov in Koreiz, not far from Yalta in the Crimea, is one of the brightest sights of our time. Palace of Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich in translation from the Crimean Tatar means “beautiful”. The architect explained his idea as follows - “the palace should be visible in the adjacent territory”. And he managed to fully implement it.

The structure is an asymmetrical architectural ensemble with battlements, silvery domes. Inside there are more than 100 rooms. This palace was built between 1895 and 1897. The project was developed by the Yalta architect, some elements and the decor of the palace were chosen independently by the Grand Duke Peter Nikolayevich. He brought a lot from his long travels in Egypt, Syria and the Mediterranean countries and the Maghreb. Sculptured stone elements and mosaic compositions stand out on the white walls.

According to historians, Peter Nikolaevich from childhood had poor health. This is one of the main reasons why he spent so much time traveling around the Middle East.

There he made sketches of local architecture, they were later used as sketches for the construction of the palace. For the construction required an impressive territory. After the implementation of this project, the architect was instructed to build another palace.

During the Second World War, the Dulber Palace was damaged, and in 1946 it was restored by German and Romanian prisoners of war. In the postwar period, the highest party leaders of the USSR and other socialist countries were received there. Today the palace is a more luxurious spa complex where you can relax and rejuvenate. Dulber is a model of elite architecture of the XIX century. "Beautiful ... gorgeous ... stealing hearts" - these words can convey the feelings one feels when seeing this man-made miracle with silver domes from an oriental tale. After the revolution, members of the Russian royal family were held captive in Dulber. This palace was their last residence in Russia, from where they left their homeland.

How to get there?

If you do not know where to start the search for the palace, then you can easily get lost in the Crimea. From Yalta without your own car you can get on the bus at number 102. It is he who goes directly to the village Koreiz. Public transport stops at the bus stop with the same name. As a guide, some tourists use the Park Chair, which stands at Alupkinskoye Highway 19, Koreiz village. The former manor today is a famous sanatorium. The distance to Yalta is only 12 kilometers.

Property Description

The first thing that catches the eye is the entrance to the main lobby, which is decorated on the same principle as in the Cairo tomb mosque. If there is any knowledge in Arabic, then you can read the inscription above the entrance, which means: "May Allah bless those who came here."

That is how this place welcomes tourists, from which immediately there is a feeling of special comfort. When looking at the overall architecture, I want to immediately note arched windows, a large variety of decorative elements, made in silver color. It is impossible not to notice beautiful ornaments that fit perfectly in a slightly romantic style. Even from afar, a building whose walls are of a snow-white color can be easily noticed.

As for the design of the walls and the adjacent courtyard, then blue, white and blue shades prevail in everything. The yard, by the way, is very spacious and tiled for convenience. On the Arab influence in architecture speak numerous teeth on the walls. In addition, the painting has many small details. The floral ornament prevails in stone carvings, there are attractive mosaics, and the balconies and numerous arches are made in openwork technique.

It should be noted, and a large number of forged elements, handles on the doors seem especially massive.

The sanatorium here appeared only in 1922, the second building was built much later - in 1938, but they tried to keep the style. It is necessary to note that the architecture of this building did not use expensive elements. Faience, which is here presented here - this is a panel created by industrial means. At the time of construction, they were a real innovation. Compositions were made of the following components:

  • petrolatum;
  • gypsum;
  • dyes.

Important! When figures were cast from the mixture, after varnishing them, it seemed that you had a delicate oriental faience in front of you.

So the architect managed to replace expensive materials with cheap ones, which allowed significant savings in construction. There are less pleasant facts regarding the construction of the palace. Some sources contain information that the architect was not immediately paid for the work, because then there were big financial problems. Peter Nikolayevich was offered to sell the building of the palace. Then he was estimated at 600 thousand rubles.

Despite such difficulties, it was decided to sell half of the estate “Znamenka”, to invest in improving the performance of a brick factory. Only after that the architect got the necessary money to complete the project. After 20 years, the castle was strengthened, set machine-gun nests and security. From here, the royal family had to flee in 1919, but if it were not for the garrison, then it is unknown whether they survived at all.

Attractions in the area

The park in its vicinity is a real botanical garden in miniature with hills, plane trees, sequoias, pistachios, cedars, cypresses and dozens of other plants brought from all corners of the globe. There is a lot of space for a pleasant pastime. Not only exotic plants are scattered throughout the territory, but also small areas for recreation with benches around artificial ponds.

The total area occupied by the park with the palace is 6 hectares. It is not easy to go around such spaces in one day, so tourists spend much more time exploring the sights.

Walking through the park you can enjoy the shade and coolness that give big sequoias, oaks and other tall trees. Along with them are tropical palm trees and cypress trees. Gradually, the road goes to the sea, you can meet statues and ancient fountains on the way to the water, for vacationers there are small gazebos that are woven over with plants, which makes it look incredibly beautiful. Nearby there are reservoirs with lilies, where colorful fish live. Children like this place no less than adults, because there is a special atmosphere inside.

Today, here you can spend your time in the modern sanatorium. Tours are available exclusively in the yard and park areas, the rest of the area accommodated guests. Unfortunately, the furniture and private office of Pyotr Nikolayevich were not preserved in the main building, so only the exterior that is available here resembles everything. The territory of the palace is accessible through the main entrance, you can safely walk around, but only without creating unnecessary noise, so as not to disturb the guests.

A few years ago it was possible to go on a tour with a man who could tell a lot about this place. Now this project is closed and another one has started, within the framework of which an opportunity is given to explore the territory of the palace on its own. Tourists are allowed to swim and sunbathe on the local beach, but to enter the premises is not.

But you can still do it quietly to capture the interior, but only until they notice you.

At the entrance to the territory hangs a map indicating the objects that are located in a large area. It can be noted that today there are several bars here, including a juice bar and a solarium. There is also a small promenade, where there are always a lot of people in the evening. Children's and sports grounds are also marked on the map, on which it is easy to assess their location in relation to other objects.

If you want, you can use a working VIP solarium or go to the summer cinema. There are also greenhouses where plants are grown for landscaping the park. The map shows parking for cars. The administration has provided a medical center at the facility, where you can contact if necessary. There is a pier to which small boats and boats arrive.

In the next video you can walk around the grounds of the Dulber Palace in Crimea.
