Even its name Fox Bay was far from accident. But the debate about its origin is still underway. Locals often mention the old name "Lysaya", associated with the scant vegetation of the coast. Romantics tend to believe that the view from the mountains to the Beacon Hill and the bay looks like a silhouette of a fox. But a more plausible option seems to be the link between the toponym and the sea fox, an invertebrate that lives in this area.

Fox Bay is a bay located on the Black Sea coast of the Crimean peninsula. Geographically, it is located between two widely known mountain ranges - Meganom and Kara-Dag.

Tourists from Russia and the republic itself come here to rest away from prying eyes, to communicate with representatives of various informal subcultures and how to spend time.

On the territory of Fox Bay, or Liski, as people call it, coming here year after year, managed to form their “settlements” with the corresponding names: Nyushka, Jamaica, Cuba, Piccadilly, Uganda, Jackal, Zelenka. It is for them that the flows of people with different interests are distributed, and such communes coexist quite peacefully, as far as possible.

The territorial affiliation of Fox Bay today is Echki-Dag Park, which has a total area of ​​1,561 hectares. Formed in 2008, the landscape and recreational area is located in the open spaces of Sudak and Feodosia and includes a full-scale system of ravines and valleys, caves and natural underground sources.

In Echki-Dag, unique samples of fauna in the form of invertebrates are presented, wild plants characteristic of the nature of the Crimea, and found only here.

The popularity of Fox Bay among the population of the CIS countries is undeniable. Here come the lovers of the "wild" holiday, not wanting to overpay for the opportunity to have a good rest on vacation. The beach for many years was one of the centers of gravity of the informal community, served as a resting place for nudists. But not only the lack of strict control of the authorities attracted thousands of tourists here.

In Fox Bay is presented a unique natural landscape, there are no harmful enterprises and other objects polluting the atmosphere. The water area is also quite clean, since there are no large port facilities nearby. But the condition of the beach itself due to the lack of centralized garbage collection causes serious complaints. The territory is rather heavily polluted, especially during the peak season, and its sanitary condition is far from ideal.

Fox Bay is a relatively narrow strip of the coastline, has a length of about 5 km. The coast is hidden from view by a mountain range with the name Echki-Dag or “goat mountain”. The peaks located on its territory have a height of 570 and 670 m above sea level and are considered to be among the most impressive in the area. The relief of the coast is difficult to call simple - it is uneven, with significant differences in height. In the mountains, there are both cliffs and a plateau or hills.

To the noteworthy sights of Fox Bay and the mountains Echki-Dag include the famous "Ear of the Earth" - located in the rock cave deeper than 100 meters. There are also two sources with pure fresh water, which allow tourists who inhabit the coast to get it for personal use in season.

The territory of Fox Bay is rich and gray volcanic clay used in balneology and cosmetology. Due to the difficult terrain around the beach, it is not recommended to move at night or in a state of altered consciousness.

Among the distinctive features of Fox Bay, its completely “wild” status can be noted. For various reasons, the coast has not been built up here, there are no centralized residential areas, communications and roads. The infrastructure is presented only:

• spontaneously educated tent camps;
• a network of dirt paths and tracks;
• temporary summer stores;
• garages and boathouses installed without permission from the authorities.

The coastal strip is rocky and not so comfortable for holidaymakers. The sea, due to the peculiarities of the bay, which has the shape of an irregular crescent, is not too calm, there is a disturbance.

It is worth considering that due to the lack of a full-fledged message and trade, everything that is necessary for living on the coast of the Fox Bay has to be taken by the vacationers. Firewood for a fire, tents, water, food should be captured in advance.

In Fox Bay go for a beautiful tan and a full "wild" rest. It is not surprising that the geography of visitors varies from local or “indigenous” tourists to those who are called “mattress” in resort areas. But the unusual geographical position, in addition to seclusion, also provides a lot of other advantages that other Black Sea resorts do not have.

The coastline with complex terrain makes it possible even to accommodate a significant number of tourists even on a relatively small section of the beach. The sand here is quite large, gray in color, there are large stones under water. There is no shortage of shadow here, but for water and fuel for the fire, if the season has not yet begun, you will have to go to the mountains.

Interestingly, the first arrival for tourists will be the "administrative" division of the beach area into separate sectors. Among them:

1. The jackal. The most profitable place to place is greenery, shrubs, trees, but it is far enough away from the sea.
2. Zelenka. Located in the coastal strip, but has a shady area with pistachio trees and oaks. It is almost impossible for a newcomer to occupy a place here - the territory from the beginning of the season is chosen by the old-timers.
3. Jamaica. Its territory is easily identified by the national flag of the country of the same name, as well as by the abundance of non-formals of all kinds. The beach here is best suited for swimming, but it is difficult to place a tent - there is little free space.
4. Piccadilly. Lively plot with elemental trade and teahouses. All the roads and paths of the bay meet here.
5. Chukotka The traditional gathering place for musicians, it is here that the most interesting events take place at night, concerts are held.
6. Nyushka. Place parking nudists. Traditional beach "for their own" and at the same time campground.

There is also a division into other areas - in Fox Bay you can find such informal place names like Pistachio Grove or Cuba. In general, a walk around the neighborhood just can not be called boring.

To visit Fox Bay and not to visit the Echky-Dag massif would be a great omission. The local peaks, Kara-Oba and Kokush-Kaya, are rather low and accessible for visits even to people with a low level of fitness. From the height there is a magnificent view of the legendary Kara-Dag, the bay and the rocks surrounding it. On the nearby Holy Hill, there is the Karadag ecological path - a popular tourist route.

Not far from Fox Bay is located village of Sunny Valley. Its name this place is quite justified. The sun shines here for more than 300 days during the year. The choice of the season to visit Fox Bay is a serious problem for many tourists. Despite the rather cold weather in the low season in the Crimea, there are enthusiasts who choose this particular time for a trip to the coast. But people far from tourism usually want to know whether it is possible to relax there in the winter and what condition the beaches have in the summer.

Of course, no one forbids visiting the Fox Bay in the period from October to May. But neither the tent camps, nor the undisturbed vacationers here in the winter there. Too cold wind blows from the sea, and in general the coast looks quite unfriendly. But as a place for walking, searching and collecting shells and unusual stones, its banks are perfect. The only difficulty is the lack of access roads, even by taxi you can only get to the beginning of the dirt road.

In the summer, here, surrounded by rocks hanging over the coast, a unique atmosphere of freedom and tolerance is created. Nearby, representatives of various informal movements coexist peacefully. The lack of natural reserve status makes these areas accessible for visiting and residence.

Fans of a good tan can cover their body with them, giving up bathing suits and other conventions. Fans of music, fire shows and new acquaintances will also find their place on the coast of this resort.

For lovers of "green" holiday Fox Bay will be the best alternative to noisy hotels. There is another important point: at the stage of familiarization with the local order, you can rent a house in the village of Kurortnoye, you can also leave valuables, a car or spend the night in a storm.

Fox Bay is hardly an easily accessible object. Geographically, it is considered part of the village of Resort, located in the urban district of Theodosius. Geographic coordinates: 44.898862, 35.162640. By road from Feodosia you can get here through Pionerskoe, Nasypnoe and Yuzhnoye, having traveled a little over 36 km. You can drive from Sudak by car through Dachne or Koktebel, driving further to Krasnokamenka and Shchebetovka, having examined local sights at the same time.

Traveling through the Resort requires turning right 2 km before entering the village itself. From this part of the road to the beach there is a dirt road, the cross-country ability of which depends on whether the grader passed here at the beginning of the season. In the absence of such training, only an SUV with high ground clearance can drive on a road that is blurred after raining in winter.

If you plan to move by public transport, it is better to leave from Feodosia, by minibus, you can get to the stop "Biostation".

From Sudak the path will be somewhat more difficult and long. Direct communication is only with Twitter. From this village is a taxi to the resort, located in close proximity to the beach.

On foot you can reach Fox Bay along the shore. The distance from the resort village is about 3 km. Also, if funds are available, you can use a hired boat departing from Koktebel.
