The peninsula of Crimea is one of the most popular places for recreation. The area attracts tourists not only for its well-groomed and cozy beaches, but also for other interesting sights: landscapes of unimaginable beauty, historical monuments and many others.

One of the most popular sights of Crimea is the Golitsyn Trail. Millions of tourists come to this place every year. What are the features of this tourist route, what to see and how to get to the Golitsyn trail, let's take a closer look at the article.

Description

If we talk about the geographical coordinates of attractions, it should be noted that Golitsyna trail is located on the peninsula of Crimea, near the village of New World. But also the trail can be quickly reached from the city of Sudak. The total length of the route is about three kilometers.

Despite the fact that this tourist route bears its name in honor of Lev Golitsyn, as a natural phenomenon, the trail existed before. For example, in more ancient times, the Crimean Tatars called this path “the road of the infidels”. The history of the origin of this name is not known for sure, but there are two main theories. The first of these states that the passage along this path was a kind of punishment - it was expensive and quite dangerous, and with its passage it was possible to die.

The second version is completely different from the first. So, it is believed that at that time there was a Christian monastery in the mountains, and on this path pilgrims climbed to it - representatives of the Orthodox faith, that is, they were wrong according to the idea of the Crimean Tatars who profess the Muslim religion.

However, during his lifetime, Prince Lev Golitsyn equipped the trail with all the necessary safety elements. (stairs, observation platforms and so on), turning it into a road, which is now not only easy, but also pleasant to go.

If you delve into the history, you can learn that, by his occupation, Lev Golitsyn was the founder of the winery. A work on the improvement of the Pathway Golitsyn, he did in honor of the visit of Emperor Nicholas II, who in 1912 came to the Crimea. During this visit, Lev Golitsyn not only treated the head of state for the best wines, but also showed him all the beauty of the Crimean peninsula. An excellent place to get acquainted with the breathtaking Crimean landscapes was the Golitsyna Trail along the Oryol Mountain along the mountain.

It is worth noting that Nicholas II was not the only known and honored guest of Lev Golitsyn and his paths. So, the prince often visited the musician Fyodor Chaliapin.

In addition, it is impossible not to say that due to its rather long existence, the Golitsyn Trail, as a famous Crimean landmark, has “overgrown” with a huge number of legends, myths and fairy tales. So, the most popular legend is the story associated with the famous Golitsyn grotto. So, it is believed that the grotto became the place where the friends of the prince decided to play a trick on the latter and made a small joke. The fact is that Lev Golitsyn was well versed in champagne wines and argued that at the moment when a bottle of truly high-quality sparkling drink opens, the cork itself slam, but the champagne does not pour out, but only characteristic white smoke appears.

In order to refute the words of a professional, friends churned a bottle of champagne all day long, and then offered Lev Golitsyn to open a sparkling wine. The prince not only doused himself with a drink, but also moistened the walls of the grotto with them. At that moment, when the liquid washed the walls and began to descend from them, ancient frescoes presented themselves to the gaze of all honest company.

However, to date, these images can not be seen, as they have disappeared over time. That is why it is impossible to say for certain whether this story is true or just interesting and in its own way a funny tale.

A milestone in the history of the Golitsyn Trail was an earthquake that occurred in 1927. This natural phenomenon had a strong negative impact on the arrangement of the trail. However, even in spite of such a cataclysm, the Golitsyn Trail remains passable, so the famous landmark receives a huge number of tourists and holidaymakers annually.

The most popular seasons for excursions along the Golitsyn Trail are summer and spring.

What to see?

Golitsyn Trail is one of the most famous sights of the Crimea peninsula. In general, you can sign up for a tour of it from anywhere in the Republic of Crimea, but the closest thing to get to the trail will be from the city of Sudak or the village of Novy Svet (a detailed path can be followed on the map). By itself, the trail stretches across the mountain Eagle or Koba-Kaya, skirting the cape. Most often, tourists visit this landmark in the summer, spring and early autumn, excursions in winter are quite rare and are possible only if there is favorable weather.

One of the most popular attractions on this route is the Golitsyn Grotto (the second name is Chaliapin's Grotto). It was in this place that the famous sparkling wines of Prince Lev Golitsyn were aged. In addition, this grotto is known for there were often informal concerts of the singer Fyodor Chaliapin. The musician was attracted by the presence of good acoustics.

Generally speaking, the grotto itself was dug in stone. However, this process was not carried out through human labor, but was created by nature itself - the grotto was dug by water. In some places, its height reaches just unprecedented rates of 30 meters.

Another striking place you will meet on your way is the Through Grotto. While the Chaliapin's grotto was formed by the forces of water, this landmark was created by geological processes that changed the location of several limestone plateaus. It is believed that the Through Grotto is an ideal place for photo shoots, so it is here that huge queues of tourists line up to make the same memorable frame.

By the forces of Prince Lev Golitsyn, this grotto is decorated with stairs and wrought-iron doors, therefore it attracts the attention of all tourists.

Besides the grottoes, The Golitsyn trail is famous for one more unusual place, namely: the precipice of the Koba-Kaya mountain. In this place there are piles of rocks. If you attach a little imagination, they will remind you of a fantastic and magical kingdom. It is not precisely known whether this phenomenon is natural, or whether it is a product of human activity. Often, one can come across the guesses of scientists that this rocky jumble was due to the labors of the Taurians.

In the process of how you will move along the path, you will go to Cape Kapchik. At this point, your path will pass over an underwater cave called Legend. A tour of the Golitsyn Trail does not provide for the descent into it. However, individual brave souls often organize independent descents and excursions to this underwater cave. And also it is impossible not to notice that a huge number of unusual Crimean plants and trees (for example, junipers) are growing on Mount Eagle (where the Golitsyn Trail is located). Therefore, after the tour you can go down into the grove and admire the vegetation landscapes of the peninsula.

How to get there?

As mentioned above, the Golitsyn Trail is located near the village of Novy Svet. Therefore, if you are here, then getting to the sights will be quite simple - you just need to walk, because the trail is located a few kilometers from the bus station.

Another nearest settlement is the city of Sudak. From here to the Golitsyn Trail you can get a minibus or own car. Distance from Sudak is about 9 km.
