Crimea is diverse in its magnificence, in every village here you can find something interesting for yourself. The small settlement of Gaspra is very popular with holidaymakers, since it is located near Yalta.
Description of the village
Gaspra is a resort city, urban settlement in the Yalta municipality of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the territory. It is located on the Black Sea coast, west of Yalta. The population is about 10 310 people. The settlement is notable for the fact that Leo Tolstoy lived here in 1901 and 1902. In close proximity are attractions such as the Roman Castrum of Harax and the romantic castle "Swallow's Nest."
Gaspra is bordered by Koreiz, another village, and it includes Marat and Stroygorodok - small settlements. What is remarkable about this place is that here you can relax in a sanatorium, boarding house or health resort. For holidaymakers, there are plenty of parks, beaches, there are attractive hiking trails and much more.
The infrastructure is well developed. It is here that the warmest climate, if we talk about the territory of the Crimea. Juniper-oak forests grow around, Ai-Petri, an impressive mountain range, protects from the cold winds of local residents and tourists. Can not help but like in the village lovers of history and ancient architecture, because throughout the territory are attractive heritage sites. Here stands the Taurus Necropolis, the fortress of Kharaks and other monuments.
The village appeared, according to some data, only in the XVIII century and since then began to actively develop as the main resort with healing air. The sub-Mediterranean climate is arid and hot, the winter remains warm. In January, the air temperature is + 4, and at the height of summer the mark on the thermometer rises to + 25 C. Tourists stay here from the end of May and leave only at the end of October.
All this time you can enjoy not only the sun, but also the warm sea.
Translated from the Greek "gaspra" means "white." For the first time this traveler and naturalist P.S. Pallas mentioned this place in his notes. From the chronicles it became known that in 1865 only 201 people lived on the territory of the modern settlement, and a mosque was built. All these people were distributed to 37 courtyards, today you can look at the preserved palaces and luxury villas, which became monuments of architecture.
Everyone who comes here must visit Golitsyn mansion called "Romantic Alexandria". The object can rightly be considered a real architectural monument of the time with its towers and unusual windows. Another object is remarkable here - "Yasnaya Polyana"where the writer Tolstoy lived and recovered from a serious illness. Lev Nikolaevich always spoke well of this place and argued that such a resort deserves to be visited even by people of high society.
If we talk about modern heritage, today “Yasnaya Polyana” has become a place where mothers with children happily rest. The premises were equipped to restore children with upper respiratory tract problems, but not tuberculosis. In the past few decades, this place has changed, not only new, modern buildings with high-quality equipment have appeared, but also a cable car that goes directly to the beach.The living room in which Tolstoy once lived is today a small museum with a writer’s notes about this place.
There are many other sanatoriums here, you can take a course of viticulture, radon and carbonic baths take guests almost all year round. It is surprisingly simple and easy to breathe here, so even air is considered incredibly useful. Two weeks a year is enough to clean up your lungs. There are no hotels in large numbers in the village, more often these are private houses, where friendly owners offer well-decorated, comfortable apartments.
Interesting places
Sights are both in the territory of the settlement, and in its vicinities. If you come here for rest and treatment, you should definitely visit several main places.
Palace Haraks
The palace was built "in the Scottish style." A small estate of Kharakov was inherited by Prince Georgy Mikhailovich. It was located on Cape Ai-Todor, rocks that are notable for their special magnificence. Previously, there was a Roman fortress Kharaks (I-III centuries), today it is only the ruins that are nearby. Harak Park today attracts no less attention of tourists.
The construction of the described object was carried out in parallel with the way they laid the pool with drinking water and organized a local park. The object fits perfectly into the surrounding Crimean landscape. The outlines of sharp red tiled roofs, graceful forms and the correct proportions that the structure has, perfectly combined with the towering teeth of Ai-Petri.
Previously, it was one of the fortified settlements of the Roman troops, which appeared in Taurus in 63-66 years. The fortress controlled shipping off the coast of the Crimea, where the sea route was laid from the Bosphorus and Chersonesos in Sinop to Trabzon. In 244, after the attack, Roman troops were evacuated from Haraks, and the fortress was destroyed. Archaeological research began in the XIX century on the initiative of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich Romanov, who owned the Ai-Todor estate.
Now the object is open for visiting by organized groups of tourists.
Palace of Countess Panina
The estate of the Countess Panina is not as well known as an architectural monument as some others. This is because the object is located in the heart of the city, therefore far from the sea. It is necessary to come here specifically to enjoy the Gothic architecture. The age of the building is 180 years. It is worth saying that the palace appeared here much earlier than even Yalta received the status of a city.
Like some other monuments this palace was erected by Golitsyn. They approached construction very responsibly, since many objects were rejected at the first stage of consideration. As a result, Montferrand was involved in the construction - the man who built St. Isaac's Cathedral. In 1836 the building was ready, an attractive park was organized around.
Nicholas 1 and the poet Zhukovsky visited here at the time.
Park Chair
Translated from the Crimean Tatar name of the park means "mountain meadow". This is not surprising, since from ancient times, local settlers were looking for fertile land to grow crops. In order to improve the land, it was necessary to cut down the groves of juniper, and so local meadows appeared. Not only vegetables, but also cereals and fruit trees were actively grown on them.
This is how the park, which is popular in our time, was formed.
In 1902, construction of the Villa Chair, where the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich lived, began. Around her they began to create an attractive park, where I would like to spend pleasant time in the shade of the trees. It had to correspond to the high status of the people living here, so it was decided to invite the architect Novichkov, who was able to radically change the local landscape. Old and diseased trees were removed, new flat landed planted. Appeared:
- bushes of exotic plants;
- trees with fruit;
- especially many rose bushes were planted.
What to see in the vicinity?
Be sure to look around the estate "Bird home", located right on the edge of a rocky cliff above the ocean. This place is one of the most popular attractions of the region and the most recognizable symbols of the Crimea. The castle, built in 1912 by a rich German, boasts a rich neo-gothic architecture. You should definitely visit the manor and look at the railing from the 40-meter cliff, which descends directly into the Black Sea.
Tourists love to wander through this area. From here there is an amazing panoramic view. The most beautiful photos are taken from here. It should be borne in mind that the road from the parking to the building is quite long, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. All tourists are advised to add this object to the excursion program, as the impressions of it are unforgettable.
