The village Katsiveli in Crimea: features and the best places for recreation
Katsiveli is a picturesque urban-type settlement at the very edge of the Black Sea, spread out at an altitude of almost 70 m above sea level, not far from the village of Simeiz on the southern coast of the Crimea. Originally conceived as a settlement near the scientific center of an astrophysical observatory, it now attracts tourists with an enviable constancy. And there is something.
Story
To replace the Taurus this place in different eras was inhabited by Goths, Huns, and then Byzantines. Actually, the name of the place literally translates from Greek as "taken prisoner." In the 1930s, a hydrophysical station was equipped here, later equipped with an astrophysical laboratory and a powerful radio telescope, under which tourists are currently sunbathing.
From any point of view of the sea, you can see the outlines of the first European oceanographic platform for hydro-physical research, which was once located at a depth of 35 meters. Relatively inexpensive for tourists, with a developed infrastructure, with a population of just over 500 permanent residents and eye-catching landscapes, this village is worthy of attention, as an option for summer holidays.
How to get there?
According to the map, Katsiveli is located along the main highway “Sevastopol-Feodosiya”, 100 km from Simferopol, which means that you can get here from Simferopol and from Sevastopol direction by bus routes. Taxis from the airport will be glad to offer you a price tag appropriate for the resorts.
Unfortunately, under its own power this can be done only with transfers.
From the airport it is quicker and more convenient to travel with a transfer through Yalta - many bus routes, buses and even a trolleybus go to it. They will not be difficult to find: immediately after leaving the terminal you will be met first by taxi drivers, then by minibuses with profitable and quick offers. A little further you will see the ticket office for the purchase of tickets for the bus or trolleybus of the corresponding airport-Yalta timetable.
Keep in mind that there are time gaps in the bus schedule, there is not always space.
In Yalta, the main station will have to find a shuttle bus or a “minibus” to Simeiz and drive another 40 minutes, and from there another 10 minutes to the very place of arrival. If you're lucky, the bus goes along the highway near Katsiveli. Ideally, it is easier to get on the Yalta-Katsiveli minibus taxi, only it goes directly to the village. You can get from Sevastopol to Katsiveli by the regular buses Sevastopol-Miskhor and Sevastopol-Yalta.
At the same time, it will be necessary to go on the highway and walk to the village 1.5 kilometers.
When is it better to go?
According to the general rule for the resorts of the southern coast of Crimea, it is recommended to come here to warm up by the sea and eat sweet local fruits in June-August. The record for comfort is August. This is the peak tourist season, in which the air warms up to 26 degrees, and the water - to 24. Then there is a minimum of rain and a maximum of sunlight. The beach season lasts 4 months together with September, and planning a trip here with a shift a month earlier or later will not deprive you of a pleasant stay.
In September, the sea will be colder, the possibility of Crimean rains more, but the flow of tourists is pleasantly lower, and you can bargain with local prices. True, the possibility of day trips due to the minimum of tourists is also significantly reduced, because budget trips will take place with a set of a certain number of applicants. However, this issue is solved with the help of neighboring settlements.
As for the end of May, according to statistics, the temperature of the sea here tends to 17 degrees - there is something to think about when going on a trip at this time.
Housing
The abundance of private sector options at the height of the season will meet you immediately, it is worth to set foot on the territory of the village. Do not underestimate these budget options "grandmother's dacha", the risk of unpleasant service in a highly competitive environment is minimal. In any case, do not hesitate to ask for photos and clarifying details. A lone traveler to help will be a bed all in the same private sector.
Through social networks and local, you can easily find affordable options.
In general, the cost of a cottage to accommodate 3-4 people is always lower than other resorts in the southern Crimea, which is caused by the remoteness and low popularity of this area. Here enjoy success guest houses "Italian Courtyard", "Katsiveli", Sunrise or "at Raisa". Among hotels and hotels the status above 3 stars is very popular "Alexandria", "Premiere" and "House of Creativity of Scientists".
Known for independent travelers for some political reason. Booking will not give results for the search for housing. Now with the help of this service it is impossible to book accommodation in the Crimea for the purpose of rest. But the second popular option is Airbnb It offers one option for renting a whole house for 8 people at a very affordable price.
Beaches
The coastal strip with alluring views stretches for 2 km. According to the description of the village, there is almost no embankment here. There are several symbolic beaches, and the most popular one near Simeiz is called “Blue Bay”. Above it rises the observatory telescope - a great attraction for an unusual resort, though, sometimes giving a great shade to sunbathers. The beach stretches like a narrow strip and in some places is cluttered with concrete fittings.
Facilities, food and entertainment are absent. There are piers for diving and fishing.
In the western part of the settlement and to the neighboring Ponizovka, other beaches stretch - less colorful and therefore more empty, sometimes even decorated with destroyed concrete embankment and metal. It is difficult to pass on them - the territory belongs not to the destroyed boarding houses, not the FSB. But as they say in discussions, nobody really stops here.
sights
The main attraction of Katsiveli, in addition to clean air and the sea, is landscape. No wonder the greatest artist Arkhip Kuindzhi was looking for inspiration with his students on the Katsiveli bays: “Night in the Crimea” was written in one of them. To lie in the shade of the telescope near the giant "Cats" - the mountains between the villages, a great memorable visual pleasure. Another thing is how quickly this beach holiday can get bored if you are not an artist, because there is no particularly large range of entertainment in the settlement itself.
The walking tourist zone is absent. The village itself can be reached in 3-4 hours. Cafes and eateries - in stock. By the way, there are guided tours on the mountain "Cat". Getting there and climbing there yourself will not be any problem even for families with children - hiking trails are elementary and enjoyable. Travel time on foot will be no more than 40 minutes one way on the highway. One of the symbols of the place is considered the first in Russia. oyster farm.
Near the turn to Ponizovka there is a hotel complex, mussels and oysters are painstakingly grown here.
For a tour of the farm you need to negotiate separately.
Recreation and entertainment
Katsiveli has several restaurants and a large water park “Blue Bay”, for which people come from all the neighboring villages. The water park has 5 pools, 11 rides, animators, all available for a great cultural holiday with children. For lovers of mobile recreation, in addition to the already mentioned excursion to the "Cat" and special climbing courses on it, there are water activities. From the same Simeiz and back to the main beach can be reached by catamaran, boat or kayak. From the central beach you can rent a yacht or boat.
The most popular restaurant here is “Yakhont” (Vitkevich St., 12) with the above-mentioned oyster farm. You can get here by appointment and on pre-order. The price of oysters depends on the size and can unpleasantly surprise, which is not surprising, because this creature grows as much as 2 years in an ecologically clean place. Also offered here are mussels, seafood soup, flounder, rapana and other food. But the most designer can be called a restaurant "Tortuga" - a pirate mood is guaranteed, however, and the price tag is somewhat devastating.
All ready-made tours in the protected corners of the Crimea can be ordered from the nearby Simeiz.
Guest reviews
Guest reviews of the village boil down to the fact that in this place it's nice to spend only a couple of days to feel its charms - visit the water park, lie on an unusual pebble beach and heartily savor delicious fresh oysters. These three options tourists put the highest scores. However, the rest of the service of the village and the number of classes in it still leaves much to be desired. As a place is quiet, beautiful, with three grocery stores and a minimum of tourists in the corners, rest in the village always attracts privacy seekers in the budget version.
