Archaeologist O. I. Dombrovsky found that in the period from the 9th to the 15th century there were about 6 settlements in the rocky plateau. Evidence of such a statement was discovered during a thorough study of the terrain. Some historians believe that the locals began to build strong protective walls after the peoples of the Khazar Kaganate attacked the land.
