In the vicinity of Simferopol there is an amazing natural monument - the Weeping Rock.

A block of sandstone and limestone seems to be really crying: drops of water, sometimes even jets, appear through its walls.

Externally, it is similar to the green giant, because it is covered with moss and lichen.

Natural features

Inhomogeneous rock formation - consists of sandstone formations and conglomerates, which alternate with each other.

The layers themselves differ from each other in structure, therefore, outwardly, the rock in the section resembles a kind of layered cake.

The height of the rock is 6-7 meters, and the length - 120-150.

Such dimensions suggest that the Weeping Rock is small at all.

But this miracle of nature is located in a marvelous place where you can know all the beauty of nature.

The form is stepped, the rock consists of terraces, which gradually narrow.

The water makes its way through the lower part, protruding straight from the stone and flowing down with neat transparent jets.

All the liquid is collected in a small lake that formed at the foot.

It all looks like a kind of little waterfall.

Small drops protrude over the entire surface and are distinguished by an unusual bluish color, therefore they resemble tears.

Geologists explain the miracle of nature from a scientific point of view and say that such weeping stones are often found in nature.

In fact, the causes of the phenomenon are no less fascinating than it is. Cavernous limestone is able to absorb liquid from the atmosphere. Over time, the stone is saturated enough to itself exude water.

Time passes, the water begins to seep from the lower layers, which consist of pebble sandstones.

Small recesses in the structure accumulate water and begin to pour it with a kind of "tears" on the principle of a crowded jug.

It seems everything is clear and the phenomenon is completely natural, but it brings a special charm to the Simferopol region and the glory of the Weeping Rock.

Legend of the rock

Geologists tried to explain everything as scientifically as possible, but there is another version of the origin of the Weeping Rock. The legend tells about the son of one of the first Khans. When the baby was born, he immediately became the favorite son of the ruler. The child grew up and pleased his father in everything - handsome, smart, he could survive in any conditions. The ruler was especially struck by the fact that the boy was beyond his age wise and insightful.

People are not without weaknesses, so Khan’s son was, as they say, not without sin. He was very in love, and when passion seized him, he became completely reckless. However, extremely cruel with the subject of his desire. The girls liked the guy locked in the tower, considering them to be their property. Once the dungeon overflowed with young maidens and the son of Khan decided to build a new place for detention. An Italian construction worker who was also in captivity was brought to this case.

The master had been looking for a suitable place for a long time, but once he found in a forest thicket a small rock that was perfect for the purpose.

When construction began, a narrow manhole between the stones was found.

It turned out that this hole leads to a large cave with a great variety of corridors and secret passages.

But each of them led to the lake, hidden from prying eyes. The place seemed literally fabulous, so the architect decided to hide the find from everyone, even from the sovereign.

The time passed, the builder finished the project and the result was very much liked by the son of Khan, but he himself was weak and very sick. The young man awarded the master, making him a confidant and entrusting to look after the girls. When the Italian builder came to the harem, then among the multitude of maidens he saw his daughter, whom he had considered dead for many years. There were three of her beautiful children.

The master gathered his courage and went to his master. Falling at his feet, he spoke about his daughter, about a magical cave with a beautiful lake.

The architect waited for punishment, but suddenly the prince helped the man up, embraced and began to cry, calling him father. According to legend, the builder, the ruler and the girl with three children disappeared on the same night.

It is believed that they all settled near that lake, and through the walls their tears of happiness appear due to family reunion.
