Many years ago, the bloody finger with all its appearance frightened superstitious peasants, many attributed to him a connection with evil forces, however, with the development of science, it turned out that this mineral is just petrified shells of ancient mollusks of the Mesozoic period. After millions of years, they were covered with multiple rocks, but the cone-shaped form was preserved, which is why the bloody finger resembles the claw of a devilish creature.

What it is?

The second name of the stone is the thunderbolt. This fossil has a fairly rich history and has a truly powerful energy. It completely owes its past to the belemnites, one of the most ancient mollusks that lived on the earth about 70 million years ago. It is believed that these creatures were the distant ancestors of squid, and everywhere inhabited the seas and oceans in prehistoric times.

According to the description, belemnites belong to the group of cephalopods that have completely disappeared today. They were quite agile predators, reaching a length of 15-25 cm. Externally they looked like squids, but they were distinguished by the presence of a strong inner shell containing a cavity divided by partitions.

It housed the slimy body of the mollusk along with flowing long tentacles and suckers.

Outside, the shell was completely covered with a protective leather cover, and the pointed part of the mollusk was rostre, visually reminiscent of an arrowhead. It is these copies that have survived to today's times, from the body of the mollusk, as well as from the cover, unfortunately, nothing is left. BThe elements died out about 60 million years ago, their disappearance coincided with the mysterious extinction of dinosaurs - it is possible that they were victims of a global cooling and a significant decrease in water temperature.

Belemnite sizes could be very different, and ranged from a few millimeters to 45 cm. It is known that rare specimens reached even 3 meters in length.

The color range of belemnites was also variable - now you can find the bloody fingers of rust-brown, grayish-gray, brown, amber, and even coal shades.

Usually after polishing, they become pronounced holographic brilliance.

Composition of fossils

The main element in the structure of belemnite is calcium carbonate. Cephalopods lived in a pure natural environment, where there are much less toxic elements than today. Phosphorus, sodium, nickel, potassium, as well as magnesium, manganese and iron can be found in the structure of this mollusk. Some varieties include bromine, copper, cobalt, vanadium, chromium, even silver and gold elements.

It is known that the powder of the bloody finger has the ability to stop the blood almost instantly and to tighten the wounds. This property is explained by the presence of aragonite in the rostra, a substance with exceptional regenerating properties.

So, everyone knows the unique properties of water in the Czech spa of Karlovy Vary. Studies have shown that the therapeutic ability of a fluid is directly related to the saturation of its aragonite.

Place of Birth

Modern science knows more than 300 species of belemnites, depending on the natural conditions and habitat, their shape and structure changed. So the mollusks living in the reservoirs had rather long refined rostra, and on the coasts it was possible to meet short individuals with wide shells. Since this cephalopod in prehistoric times lived everywhere, their petrified remains today can be found in various parts of the world.

They are located at a depth of Jurassic and Cretaceous sediments. The most large-scale finds were found on the Australian continent. It should be noted that the minerals found there are of high value, and, in addition, are used to create jewelry.

After grinding and polishing, they look like opals, so jewelry with these stones look very impressive and is always highly valued.

As for Russia, the cluster of bloody fingers can be found in various parts of the world: you can search for them in the Moscow region, on the banks of the Oka and Volga. As a rule, fossils can be found only by digging with a shovel to a depth of half a meter, especially in sandy clay soils.

Properties

If we talk about the physical properties of the stone, then it is safe to say that belemnites have rather low strength, low hardness, so they are easy to damage and scratch, not only with metal, but even with ordinary glass. In numbers, the hardness is estimated at 5.5 points on the Mohs scale.

However, this parameter is considered to be exemplary, since the mollusk usually formed its shells from those substances that it found in permanent habitats.

So, in Australia, stones were found, the strength of which is estimated at 7 points - in their physical properties they are quite similar to opals.

Devil fingers are credited with a lot of healing and mystical properties. Let us dwell on the impact that a stone has on a person.

Medicinal

Even in ancient times, the powder of the bloody finger was widely used for treating snake bites and other wounds - it was believed that this way you can quickly relieve inflammation to promote the rapid restoration of integument. In those years, such manipulations were necessarily accompanied by the reading of special slanders. In the countries of the Old World, residents claimed that a mineral powdered into the eyes, blown directly into the eyes, contributes to the improvement of vision. However, according to the chronicles, such treatment not only did not bring the desired result, but, on the contrary, worsened the situation of the patient. In Scotland, ordinary water was insisted on a bloody finger. In the Middle Ages, bowel and poisoning disorders were treated in this way.

If we talk about scientifically confirmed facts, then it should be noted that belemnites are used to treat a fairly wide range of diseases. Mineral is 70% calcium, 30% is accounted for by many other trace elements. In its structure there are no harmful substances, because in the Mesozoic era they simply did not exist either in the water or in the air. That is why supporters of lithotherapy everywhere are using belemnite in their practice.

For therapy, you can make the powder yourself, and you can buy it ready, in specialized pharmacies.

Devil's finger is shown to improve stamina, physical strength, and human activity. It helps to strengthen the immune system, the mobilization of the protective resources of the body. In alternative medicine, 0.5 g of belemnite powder is dissolved in 250 ml of warm water, thoroughly stirred, and when the entire sediment is lowered, filter the resulting infusion and consume 30-40 minutes before meals three times a day.

The course of such therapy lasts 10 days, and with osteoporosis, it is prolonged to 30 days.

There are a number of other diseases that the bloody finger can do very well. Many skin pathologies can be noted: psoriasis, various trophic ulcers, furunculosis, weeping dermatitis. In case of such problems, it is necessary to sprinkle inflammations with cephalopod powder every day.

In osteoporosis, the solution of crushed stone is ingested, traditionally, the treatment lasts 1 month and is repeated 3-4 times a year. They note improvement in the treatment of gastritis and ulcers with belemnites - in this case they also ingest a solution of the powder. The solution has proven to be a good remedy for colds and allergies, as well as for tuberculosis. It should be noted that for healing purposes you can take powder, as well as ointments containing fragments of belemnite.

Warning: before treatment with belemnit should consult a doctor.

Consider that the use of drugs from the devil's finger is strictly forbidden for cancer, hypertension, urolithiasis and gallstone disease, as well as for thrombophlebitis and during pregnancy.

Magical

Mollusks of belemnite quite often take it out of the water and throw it out to the shore. The ancient people believed that this was due to the tricks of the devil, and a meeting with such a stone promises trouble. A lot of beliefs are associated with the black finger, for the most part they are negative. People saw a direct connection of the stone with the devilish forces, some even called it demonic. Despite this, the bloody finger was used to create talismans and amulets.

Created many legends explaining the origin of belemnites. Usually they describe stones as stubs of fearsome monsters and evil spirits, some superstitions say they are arrows sent from clouds. One of the legends says that once the supreme demon wanted to take over the whole earth and was immediately defeated and punished for it - the gods turned him into a rock, and severed fingers spread all over the world, so that they were not only on the ground, but and in reservoirs.

In the mythology of individual European countries, belemnite is often associated with rainfall - it was believed that this stone protects the house from damage during thunderstorms. In China, belemnite is called dragon's teeth, and it is believed that the larger the stone, the angrier and more dangerous the lizard was.

People believed that the strength and power of such a dragon would go to the person wearing the amulet.

The origin of the name of the stone is not completely clear, it has spread only on the territory of our country, but there is no legend explaining it. It is possible that the stone is associated with devils for the reason that they usually find it in unclean places: lowlands, ravines, swamps. In the beliefs of ancient people, any folding is the work of devilish forces, it is believed that in the process of creating our world, the devil put part of sushi into his mouth, chewed, and then spat out. This is how the mountains, ditches, and potholes arose, where devils have since started to dwell.

Many regions of Russia have their own legends about the origin of this unusual mineral. For example, in the Smolensk region, old-timers insist that devils fight at night in fist fights and break their fingers. In the Ukrainian villages there is a tradition that the demons lost their fingers when God dropped them from heaven. Some legends say that Michael the Archangel himself cut off the unclean fingers, which is why devils are often called impotent.

The people of the Komi Republic are still passing from generation to generation the legend of the good god Yon, who once decided to drive out all demons from the land. For this, he turned into a regular potter and sat down near a large road. The devils who saw him began to mock him and show off their ability to shrink and grow in size. Then, teasing them, Yong invited them to climb into the pot. Stupid spirits did just that, but God sealed the pots and buried them in the ground. However, one pot crashed and the demon sharpened in it, rushed to run, that there were legs, and so fast that it broke its fingers along the way, clinging its claws to the ground.

Another version of the name is water fingers. Muddy is one of the worst representatives of the unclean, whom the Slavs feared more than the devil itself. There is an opinion that those drowned in the last minutes before death see such fingers before themselves.A similar version was born to the Nenets people - there belemnite is considered the claws of the water spirit, with which he breaks the ice in the spring. And in Yamal, such stones are called mermaid claws.

To this day, the bloody finger is considered a strong amulet. According to some psychics, with the help of a belemnite fixed on the wall of a house, you can significantly reduce the negative impact in a residential house or apartment. In Slavic mythology, the bloody finger was also used as an amulet - it is believed that it is a reliable way to protect a home from lightning flashes. To do this, Rusich scattered stones all over the roof, and also hung them in the attic. The infinite belief in the superpowers of the stone endowed it with fire-resistant characteristics - it is believed that the mineral reliably protects the house from the destructive action of fire.

In addition, the stone is considered an endless source of energy. According to legends, those people who wear a talisman with a bloody finger on themselves will always be calm and completely confident in their future.

This amulet will protect family relationships, protects against all sorts of workplace troubles.

Application

Numerous studies have shown that petrified prehistoric mollusks have an extremely rich composition of trace elements. These components are widely used in the cosmetic industry to create the care and anti-aging products. Pounded mollusks added to the composition for bathing, masks, compresses, belemnite powders are also injected into shampoos and hair rinses.

Nowadays, damn fingers in powder form are added to feed for farm animals - it is noticed that with constant consumption, their immunity increases, bones and muscles strengthen, and productivity increases.

Minerals are valuable exhibits in the collections of lovers of antiquity, belemnites are also used to create ethnic talismans and amulets, mollusks are considered especially valuable, in which blood vessels are clearly visible - such damn fingers are found in large numbers in the mountains of the Altai Territory.

Large belemnites are considered to be an excellent decorative element that can put stylish accents in the interior of a living room or a fireplace room. Belemnite shells can be placed in aquariums, put on a coffee table or bookshelf. Some craftsmen even make special collectible copies on supports made of ornamental stones, decorated with chains and colored lights.

Belemnite is inexpensive, the price of the damn finger on the market starts from 50 rubles per piece or from 700 rubles per kilogram. As for the creation of jewelry, mostly processed polished belemnites are used for jewelry.

Jewelers, who know a lot about precious stones, rarely resort to the use of minerals of biological origin.

Who is suitable?

It cannot be said that belemnite especially favors this or that sign of the zodiac - it gives its favor to anyone who decided to wear jewelery with a damn finger or make him a charm. However, in Slavic mythology, fossilized mollusks are considered the children of Perun, therefore such decorations will be especially useful for people born at the end of summer - this corresponds to the zodiac constellation Leo. According to esoteric beliefs, the stone helps them to build a career and rewards such important qualities as courage, determination, confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Stone care

To preserve this unusual prehistoric stone in its original form, you should follow the basic rules for caring for it. Belemnite has a rather fragile structure, so when you form any cracks or scratches, you must always polish your copy. It is cleaned with ordinary rags, and you can achieve a surprisingly beautiful shine.

But during the manipulations you need to monitor your actions - they must be accurate and extremely accurate.

Special attention is given to the processing of belemnites, which includes several stages.

  • Stone inspection. For further processing, it must be intact, if there are cracks and chips, you just need to cut off the damaged part, then with the help of special grinding nozzles to give the necessary cone-shaped shape. If the stone has a too rough surface, then nozzles for an engraver and the like will be needed.
  • At the second stage, pre-polishing is carried out, It is usually suitable for this emery with the parameters of grain size # 360 or # 800 - however, if already at the first stage you could achieve a flat surface, then this item can be safely skipped.
  • Finishing sanding. To do this, use special engravers working at high speeds, with a nozzle of felt, which is pre-applied grinding paste. It is best to use white, because, falling into the cracks, it is not as noticeable as, for example, red or green.

If you don’t have a machine-engraver, then an ordinary piece of leather will fit perfectly, for convenience, it is pulled on a wooden bar with the back side up, sanding paste is applied and polished. In both cases, the result will be the same, just when working with the skin will take more time and physical effort. Varnish stones do not cover, but if the idea of the author of the decoration requires, then use a glossy acrylic composition.

You can achieve a shining look by rubbing a stone with ordinary wax.

Of course, the bloody finger is not as beautiful in appearance as some other gems and minerals. This stone has a long history, which, despite the mythological essence, could not leave its significant energy mark on this stone. For many centuries, generations of people sincerely believe in the magical healing power of this mineral and give it a special feeling, which you can only experience by taking a belemnite in your palms.

Just think about it, this seemingly nondescript stone was once a long time ago a real living creature that lived in a flock and cast fear on smaller inhabitants of water bodies. This cephalopod mollusk furrowed prehistoric oceans and seas, and died when permafrost came on earth. But the history of the stone did not end there - many thousands more and even millions of years had been borne by the earth. Our ancestors worshiped this stone, and even now many nations believe in it, and the use of belemnite is recognized even by official medicine.
