The Abyssinian cat is one of the oldest cat breeds, according to some scientists, it was them who were bred in ancient Egypt, calling them "radiant cats of the horizon." This is partly due to their unusual color, which may be blue, brown, silver, lilac, tortoise, beige (faun) and red (sorrel).
The hair of animals is flat and smooth, it fits tightly to the body and shines, they have no stripes, points or spots either on the tail or on the paws. Each hair is dyed in a different tone of the same color from all sides. This type of color is called ticking and it turns out because of the agouti gene that is predominant in these cats. If you stroke a cat by wool, you get one shade, against wool - a shade of the same color will be different in color, it will be either lighter or darker.
But at the same time, they are not born immediately with their one or another color, but acquire it only in the second year of life. Initially, the kittens color is dull and weak, and only with time does it acquire its brightness and saturation.
Abyssinian cat blue color
Blue color of wool is present in almost all breeds of cats. If the cat in generations had black relatives, then sooner or later the subsequent offspring will acquire a blue color. Blue color in Abyssinian cats was officially recognized in 1984.
In contrast to the coats of other colors of this breed, blue color has the most visible contrast and its own characteristics.
- Cats should not have a bleached undercoat.
- Along the spine there is a pronounced, unlike the whole body, blue strip.
- The undercoat on the stomach, chest, chin and paws is lighter. It can be apricot, beige, light brown or cream.
- On the back, head and tail wool gray-blue.
- The nose may be brown or gray-blue. Eye color is acceptable from copper to green, and cats with golden eyes or hazel are also found.

When you acquire any animal, before you bring it into the house, you need to prepare everything you need. This will allow you to avoid any unpleasant moments, and the animal - it is easier to transfer the stress of moving and adapting to a new place.
Abyssinian kittens start selling from an early age, just over two months. But it is better to wait a bit and get a kitten who is at least four months old.
When buying a kitten, you need to look at it carefully and take into account all the points:
- wool must be clean and level;
- the eyes are clear, most often emerald or amber, without “tears” or any clusters around them;
- ears clean, like the whole body, without any rashes.
One of the main conditions for the maintenance of Abyssinian cats - the company. They suffer loneliness. If you are not at home all day, then it is better to have two kittens right away.
There are other features in the maintenance and care of them.
- Nutrition. Animals can eat both ordinary foods and specialized feed. In any case, you need to make food kittens varied and full. Starting from ten months, they are gradually transferred to an adult diet. If you decide to feed the cat with special feeds, then they should be premium.Experienced breeders will recommend you manufacturers and brand of feed. Vitamin-mineral supplements and amino acids are already included in their composition.
Food should always be in the bowl of the animal so that the cat does not eat up for good. And, of course, the animal must always have clean water in the second bowl. Preferring natural products, you need as much as possible to diversify their diet and make a kind of menu for each day.
It is important to ensure that prohibited for cat health products do not get into the diet. The prohibited foods include fatty meat of lamb and pork, sausages and smoked meat, legumes and potatoes, medicines and vitamins intended for humans. Of course, you should eliminate all sweet.
- Restroom. When purchasing kittens in nurseries or from experienced breeders, they will give you a little toilet filler, to which the kitten is used. If you want to change it for another brand, you need to do it gradually, otherwise the kitten may stop walking at all in the tray unusual to him. Cats of this breed are clean, the tray must be cleaned daily or purchase a second one to replace.
- Care for the appearance of a kitten. Due to the fact that the kittens have short hair, combing it is enough no more than once a week. It is necessary to wash the kitten only as needed and with special shampoos. Ears only clean the visible areas without penetrating the inside of the ear. They need to be cleaned with cotton pads dipped in ear cleaning solution. It is better not to touch the eyes of the animal, the kitten itself must learn to wash out. Claws are trimmed once every two weeks and tips only. Every year, kittens need to be vaccinated against infectious diseases.
The breed of Abyssinian cats is one of the most expensive in both purchase and maintenance. The price of one kitten can be from 15 to 70 thousand rubles, depending on the pedigree, color and reputation of the seller. Therefore, before acquiring these cats, think again - if you can maintain them and provide them with everything you need.
