Story
The roots of modern Burmese cats go back to the ancient traditions of Burma, where these furry animals lived in the temples - in those years, the monks considered them sacred, which is why over time the breed became known as "sacred burma". According to legends, many centuries ago, these cats were completely white, but once there was a misfortune - the robbers attacked the temple, the priest died, bravely defending the statue of his goddess.
At that moment a miracle happened - the elder cat, nicknamed Sinh, jumped on the head of its deceased host, and then his fur lit up with a bright glow, as if it had flared. Frightened criminals scattered, and the monks, together with other cats, managed to drive them out of the temple. A faithful cat did not leave a few days away from the lifeless body of its owner, and so it died near the foot of the statue of their goddess.
All the other animals that lived in the temple received sky-blue eyes and a delicate golden color as a reward from the higher forces - just like the statue, made of sapphires and gold. At the beginning of the last century, Burmese cats were brought to Europe.
In 1919, world-famous millionaire Vanderbilt brought these animals to France - in the homeland of these animals he bought two kittens for huge money, but only one female pet could reach the new house. This cat later produced the first two Burmese, after which scientists began to actively work on the reproduction of these unusual animals. However, world wars nearly destroyed their work - in those years the sacred Burmese were practically destroyed. In order to prevent the disappearance of the view from the face of the earth, the cats were crossed with Persians and Siamese.
In the middle of the 20th century, the breed was recognized as an official science, and in the 1980s their first exhibition took place in Italy - it was then that these Fuzzies gained worldwide recognition.
Nowadays, Burmese aristocrats are very popular and hugely loved by breeders in various countries.
Description
Burmese cats can not be called large, however, they have a fairly strong muscular body, the males are much more females. The torso is slightly elongated, the paws are small, rounded, the tail is usually medium in size, rather fluffy. The head is rounded, the ears are small, stand straight, slightly rounded at the top. The eyes are bright blue. When little Burmese come to light, their eyes are much lighter, but as they grow older they become saturated with aquamarine.
A characteristic feature of the Burmese is their elegant wool - soft, pleasant to the touch, not prone to the formation of mats and almost no undercoat. On the breast of the animal there is a rather shaggy collar, and the hair on the abdomen is curled slightly. The most common colors of Burmese cats are:
- Blue Point is a deep gray with unobtrusive blue notes;
- seal point - brown;
- dark chocolate;
- beige.
On the belly, the coat is usually slightly lighter, and the main part is symmetrically located “socks” on all legs, behind them they formulate something like “spurs”. It should also be borne in mind that the Burmese are born completely white, and only after many months acquire their characteristic color.
Possible defects in the breed include:
- eye color that does not meet accepted standards;
- the presence of a silvery shade in one or both eyes;
- strabismus;
- white spots and stripes on the abdomen;
- non-standard structure of the tail and head shape.
Animals that do not have “spurs” and “socks” on their paws are not allowed to participate in exhibitions, multi-colored spots on the paws and exceeding the “spurs” of the level of the hock joint are considered as marriage.
Character
Sacred Burma is a very ancient breed, and today such cats remain one of the most popular pets in the world. The animal never ceases to amaze its breeders, who every day discover for themselves more and more new character traits. Burma is characterized by tenderness and aristocracy, she has good manners, calm and balanced character. Exceptional communication and sociability in it go hand in hand with a sharp mind. If guests are expected in the house, the animal will willingly make contact, absolutely not being afraid of strangers.
