The 80s gave us an unusual version of sleeves called bat, applicable for any style of dresses. These dresses are a great success, because they are sewn easily, they are suitable for any situation, they correct the figure and give freedom.

Fit patterns to size

The dress pattern with a bat sleeve resembles a rectangle, to which a sleeve was added. And most importantly, the sleeve does not need to be cut out and waste time on stitching, although there are exceptions.

You can sew a dress without a pattern, circling for example an old jacket, and you can model it yourself or find it in fashion magazines.

In any case, without taking into account their parameters and knowledge of some of the subtleties of a beautiful dress will not work.

  • As a basis, you can take the pattern of your favorite blouse and lengthen it to the desired size.
  • On the existing dress pattern, you can also adjust the length of the skirt and the size of the sleeve, as well as the neckline.
  • Be sure to double-check the sleeve length and thigh width. It is calculated using the 1/4 thigh circumference plus 1 cm for a loose fit.
  • Decide on a long cuff. Usually it is 13-17 cm. The length of the cuff is measured from the bottom edge of the sleeve, a parallel line is drawn and the excess is cut off. Double cuff is modeled separately.
  • The back and in front of the model "bat" cut out using one pattern.
  • The length of the dress depends on the footage of the fabric and it is equal to two product lengths with an increase of 20 cm.
  • Do not be lazy to make the decation of the acquired segment.

The choice of fabric

For sewing the dress bat use any, but not very thick matter. Heavy fabric heavily weights the silhouette and it is impossible to achieve beautiful falling folds, therefore mainly soft, slightly elastic and well draped dress fabrics are chosen.

Sheath Dress

Let's look at an example of tailoring a dress with a one-piece sleeve without using a pattern.

Cutting and tailoring

  • Fold the fabric twice face inward.
  • Also do with a blouse and align their folds.
  • Chalk outlines.
  • Re-measure the circumference of the chest, waist and hips, cut the back, adding allowances for seams.
  • Circle the received part of the back on a piece of cloth and cut it out before deepening the neck.

From the remaining matter make a loop. Cut a strip, then stitch it and turn it out.

Before and back, fold together inside out. At the waist on the sides place the loops and secure with pins. Sew the details.

Obtachka

  • Open the neck of the non-woven fabric and fabric with the neckline of the neck of the back and the front.
  • Stitch the details of the stitching and sweep the outer edge.
  • Attach the facing with pins to the neck and sew on a typewriter.
  • Iron, then hem hands.

Dress tunic

To build a dress-tunic pattern you need to take measurements:

  • chest and thigh girth;
  • front length to waist and length from the waist;
  • side height

The neck on the pattern is wide. You can model it to your liking, even make it asymmetric.

With short sleeves

It is not obligatory to hide beautiful handles under a long sleeve. For the warm season, you can sew a dress with a short bat sleeve.

The model of this dress has no tucks, so the material must be tight and elastic to fit the body beautifully.

For size 44-46, you will need about 2.5 meters of fabric.

The top of the dress is modeled so that it fits all breast sizes. And with a long you can experiment.

Alignment patterns on the fabric involves the presence of an additional seam on the back, which you can finish the cut.

The principle of sewing is simple. Sew side as well as shoulder seams, if necessary, cut up the cuts. The neck is processed by turning, and the bottom of the dress is stitched.

Pattern for a dress with a cutting sleeve

A bat dress with a cutting sleeve made of contrasting fabric in texture and color looks originally.

The pattern consists of one front part, two back parts and two parts for each sleeve. Also needed is a one-piece neck opening.

  • Redraw the pattern with allowance for seams.
  • Details of the back stitch, then tuck.
  • Sew front and back together.
  • Sew on the facing.
  • Connect the elbow of the sleeve with the front and stitch the sleeves.
  • Make a bottom hem.

Pattern dress bat with a neckline "boat"

In this dress, the skirt is straight and the sleeve with cuffs. Details are laid out on the fabric "wallet".

Pattern dress with low waist

Based on the previous pattern, you can simulate a dress with a low waist and short sleeves bat.

The red dotted line indicates the line of the sleeves. The skirt is straight here. Its width is equal to the volume of the hips.

It is better to cut in two steps. First fold the fabric and open the bodice, then fold the fabric across the width of the skirt and open it.

Keep in store dress patterns with bat sleeves. They will be useful to you more than once.
