Paranoid: characterization of personality type and recommendations for interacting with it
Paranoid is a personality disorder characterized by acute distrust of others. People with paranoid syndrome are suspicious, jealous, they see a trick in everything. Such a person projects personal conflicts on others, simple actions of people seem to him directed in his direction, and with a negative goal. Sometimes this perception of the actions of others leads to paranoid aggression.
What is this psycho?
The birth of a paranoid personality type leads to paranoid disorders and psychosis. People with this psychotype transfer personal negative sides to the outside world and begin to fight them, presenting them as external threats. Sometimes this behavior is expressed in the normal range, that is, a person is overly suspicious, he prefers to launch an attack first, until the surrounding people have attacked themselves. But often this state turns into classical paranoia, which is reborn into a psychiatric diagnosis.
Among politicians there are a lot of people with a paranoid psychotype, because this is exactly the area where it is possible to fight against the fact that, in the view of this person, is evil. As a rule, it is paranoid individuals who often find themselves in situations of persecution. Their distrust and suspicion seem to attract trouble.
Personality disorder resulting from the development of increasing symptoms of paranoid, it becomes a defective character trait that prevents a person from living normally and communicating with others. He is too selfish, suspicious, he is characterized by vindictiveness, all the actions of other people seem hostile to him. In this regard, paranoids often turn out to be the initiators of conflicts; they worry too much about any normal event in their lives.
The sense of humor is not peculiar to paranoia; it values people only in relation to itself and its ideas. He is irritable, capricious, aggressive, very sensitive to criticism. According to him, in any unpleasant situation, someone else is to blame, but not himself.
Characteristics and symptoms of paranoid personality
The main symptom of a paranoid psychotype is unfounded suspicion. Paranoid constantly accuses the beloved of treason, doubts the reliability and loyalty of his friends, suspects the betrayal of business partners. Any light or even comic remark is perceived by the paranoid as a threat and humiliation. Affective reactions, inadequacies, which often accompany this type of psychosis, seem delusional to a normal person.
Sometimes the patient sees hallucinations, his associations become friable, certain thoughts are blocked, he sees a negative and prejudiced attitude towards himself in everything. Among the paranoid character traits, vindictiveness, dissatisfaction with everything that is happening around are especially pronounced. Even minor troubles are very painfully perceived by this person. All these symptoms bring many problems to paranoid relatives, this is expressed both in personal relationships and in the conduct of the general life, and therefore, when these signs appear, it is recommended to seek help from a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.
Paranoid type of character refers to a sociopathic accentuation. A distinctive feature of the paranoid is also increased conflict due to the stubborn desire to introduce innovations. All those who do not share his views, this man sees as dishonorable and malevolent. It is characterized by rigidity of behavior. If the projects proposed by the paranoid cause only indifference or refusal to accept them, he becomes even more persistent in achieving his goal. When describing a paranoid personality type, experts often call concentration on the task set, a low ability to understand others. When these symptoms begin to manifest themselves stably over time, become total in nature, and cause serious difficulties in social adaptation, then we are already talking about paranoiac psychopathy.
Classification of psychosis
The most common classification of paranoid psychosis based on variants of delusions.
- Bullshit greatness. A person sees in his superpowers, compares himself with celebrities, mythical characters, book heroes. He attributes his legendary discoveries. If delusions of grandeur have developed at a religious level, then the patient creates his own cult.
- Erotomanic nonsense. Looks like the above option, but in this case the patient sees himself as a love inspiration for a celebrity. Usually these are platonic feelings without an intimate component. The object of affection may be little familiar to the patient.
- Somatic delirium. In this situation, the person is sure that he has suffered a fatal illness or sees a physical injury in himself.
- Brad of pursuit. The most common option. Allegedly, someone always follows the patient and his close people in order to cause harm to their health.
- Brad jealousy. In this case, the patient is confident that his second half changes. And not necessarily he sees a trick in the behavior of the partner at the present time, delusions can spread into the past. Most often, this type of delusion is susceptible to paranoia, who has been disturbed by alcoholism.
- Unspecified version of delusional disorder. This situation can combine several types at once.
Sometimes nonsense is difficult to attribute to any group. For example, the patient imagines himself a werewolf or represents that all people have been replaced by their twins.
Causes of the syndrome
It is difficult to identify any one factor that influenced the formation of paranoid personality disorder, usually there are several reasons for this. Among them it is customary to single out the following theories.
- Genetic causes. The disorder may be due to hereditary factors, but the steps of adopting paranoid characteristics from a relative have not yet been studied in detail.
- Living conditions and education. Paranoid syndrome is more often seen in people who were brought up in dysfunctional families or were subjected to serious educational measures.
- Disappointment in others. If a person has become a victim of deceit and ridicule, or he has been deliberately injured, his distrust and suspicion are greatly increased, which subsequently leads to mental disorder.
- Physical Ailments Atherosclerosis, lesion and syphilis of the brain - all this can significantly affect the formation of paranoid psychosis. Diseases of the digestive tract, neuroendocrine diseases, or even somatic problems can cause the manifestation of the syndrome.
Therapy methods
To suppress the symptoms of paranoid and get rid of the disease, it is necessary to identify the cause of the incident and try to understand it. The situation can be completely corrected if timely resort to treatment. The most common methods of therapy are:
- the use of medicines;
- behavioral treatment;
- cognitive psychotherapy;
- use of the theory of object relations.
If a medical method of therapy is chosen, then antidepressants, vitamins, antipsychotics, hypnotics, sedatives are most often used. However, all this should be prescribed by a doctor, self-treatment can aggravate the situation.
You can take a psychotherapeutic course. His choice should also be based on the recommendations of a specialist. The mechanism of action depends on the severity of the disorder and the severity of symptoms; during the classes, the doctor can adjust the treatment regimen.
Usually, after such a course, the symptoms of psychosis disappear, the behavior becomes less aggressive, the patient begins to show less displeasure. This method is aimed at self-awareness of the patient's problems, the doctor teaches the patient to avoid conflict situations.
Progress in therapy is determined by the degree of paranoid awareness of the fact that he is not the center of the universe, there are other people who have an opinion that is different from his views and this must be considered. It turns out that the patient is dissatisfied in people with those qualities that are often his own qualities and desires.
If the therapy is not started on time, then paranoid ideas will become even more pronounced with age. You should also not interrupt treatment if it seems to be ineffective: often the process of therapy takes place over long months and even years, but an appeal to a highly qualified specialist gives a lasting result in the form of reducing the symptoms of the disorder.
How to communicate with such a person?
If there is a need to communicate with a person which has a paranoid personality type, use the following tips.
- It is recommended to avoid a paranoid argument. It is impossible to get it off the ground. Let him feel like a winner.
- Be polite to him, follow the generally accepted rules of behavior.
- Do not criticize paranoiac. This is especially true of his views on himself.
- Do not talk about paranoid badly behind your back, he is able to find out about it and come into a rage.
These are general rules for communication in any situation, but it all depends on the circumstances. If the boss is paranoid, then there are two ways out: to leave work or serve him faithfully and faithfully. If a conflict arose with a paranoid employee, then first of all it is recommended to consult with a lawyer. When a relative becomes paranoid, it is necessary to consult a psychiatrist.
There are several other behaviors in the company of a person with paranoid personality disorder. As already noted, it is impossible to convince him of his own position, but you can try to enter into an argument with the use of clever tricks. For example, you can stand on his side and prove the effectiveness of his own views. A paranoiac, for whom a loss in a dispute is tantamount to death, will begin again to bring arguments, but already against his point of view, unconsciously agreeing with the opponent’s initial opinion.
If the client of the selling company is paranoid and he refuses to buy the product, because the price is too high, then you can offer him a worse option so that he is convinced that the original copy was better. At the same time, the paranoid must be convinced that he himself came to this conclusion: do not impose goods on him, do not convince of anything, do not insist on buying.
