The royal poodle is the largest animal among the fellows in the breed. Aristocratic beauty and the article he fully justifies the title. This breed has always been loved and held by Bohemian representatives starting with Charlemagne and ending with Churchill. The royal poodle is one of the smartest dogs in the world.
History of origin
The International Association of Cynological Federations (FCI) has recognized the elimination of the decorative royal poodle for France, although Germany has also declared its involvement in the creation of the breed. In German, the species name is pronounced “waterfowl”. France considers the royal poodles to be the national breed of their country.
The roots of the population of these dogs go so deep into the history that today it is difficult to say with certainty on whose land these amazing animals appeared. Roman and Greek antique coins dating back to the first century BC were found, and portraits of dogs resembling modern poodles were minted on them. But France won its argument, thanks to the artist of the XII century, who depicted a poodle on the wall of one of the French churches in Reims.
The first scientific description of the breed was made by the Swiss biologist K. Gesner in the middle of the XVI century. In the same century, G. Forer described all varieties of poodles: multicolor, large, and dwarf.
Canine scientists still do not come to a common opinion, what kinds of dogs were involved in the formation of the royal poodle breed. Some believe that it occurred as a result of mixing the German sheep poodle and the Spanish water dog. Others attribute kinship with the commanders, the cops, the French aquatic, the barbets and the Irish spaniels.
There is a legend that only monarchs kept royal poodles; attempts to get dogs outside a royal family were punished with death. But there is evidence that blind beggars used these animals as guides. In addition, the dogs performed in circuses, were used by hunters to get the wounded game out of the ponds. During World War II, poodles found the wounded, found mines, pulled out a telephone cable and guarded the military.

If the master of the soul doesn’t mind in his pet, the poodle’s devotion will be limitless.. He will adapt to any temperament of the owner with any rhythm of life, will become the most comfortable and obedient dog.
With the master-athlete will run in the morning, with a lover to lie on the couch with pleasure lying around.

She remembers and takes note of more than two hundred words and many gestures. Communicating with his pet, the owner will always be sure that he is understood.
The universal nature of the dog is ideal for large families with children. Poodle get along with everyone, from toddlers to old people. By nature, the dog is quite active, it will be happy to play with children. With the same passion the poodle will rush with other pets, if they are in the family, he is very sociable and will surely love them.
High intelligence and energy force the poodle to constantly explore the world and learn something new. For such dogs, training is very important, and the more the animal is loaded with clever tasks and moving exercises, the more pleasant it is. But to begin learning should be with obedience. If this is not done, a smart, playful and wayward dog can show its character. For example, if an animal did not go wild, it would throw out energy at home, along the way, beating something.
It is necessary to walk with an adult poodle two or three times a day, and with puppies more often, changing places of walks. Diversity affects the formation of their intelligence.
The king poodle is good-natured and aristocratic, but it has one small addiction - to bark without a reason. This disadvantage is removed timely and proper education.
Lifespan
The royal poodle is considered a long-liver dog, on average, the life of an animal is about 17 years, and in favorable conditions even longer. Good conditions include proper maintenance, a balanced diet, active walks, disease prevention and timely treatment, if the disease is still manifested. Having done everything correctly, we will get a healthy energetic pet, in which even old age comes much later than other dogs, after 13 years.
A poodle has good immunity, but there are risks of diseases that can undermine its health and affect its lifespan. These include diseases such as:
- lymphadenitis;
- retinal atrophy;
- volvulus;
- diseases of the spine and hip joint;
- congenital deafness;
- epilepsy;
- manifestations of diabetes;
- hypothyroidism;
- food allergies;
- urolithiasis disease;
- adrenal gland problems;
- skin dermatitis.
It does not mean at all that the pet should have had all this, but it can still suffer from any of the listed diseases. There is also a sensitivity of poodles to insect bites.
Color options
About the poodle's hair is worth talking separately.His curls are strikingly different from the wool of many dogs and without a haircut turn into a disorderly knitted fur jacket, although the springy structure saves from the active formation of tangles, as is the case with other long-haired breeds.
It is desirable to cut a dog monthly. If she participates in exhibitions, she will have to wear only standard “hairstyles”: “Continental”, “Modern”, “English Lion”, “Scandinavian Lion”. Puppies cut in the style pappy-clip. An adult dog can be beautifully laced, but the owners rarely resort to this type of animal decoration.
The poodle is the owner of a thick beautiful curly hair that does not shed. Therefore the dog refers Allergy-friendly breeds and is suitable for people suffering from allergies. Although the animal moults still pass, but once in life, at the age of about 9 months, when the adult wool replaces the nursery.
Adults, even not quite old dogs, can turn gray or fade - this property is especially noticeable on dogs with apricot and brown color. As for the white color, it is common for it to acquire yellow and gray spots, therefore, the pet's diet should consist of special feeds designed to maintain a good white coat.
A healthy color in a poodle looks uniform, even, in a single shade. The breed has a variety of tonal capabilities, the color can be:
- the black;
- white;
- apricot (red);
- peach;
- brown;
- silver (gray);
- red.
In our country, dogs are allowed to exhibitions with any colors of even tonality. Red FCI officially approved relatively recently, in 2007.
Content and training
It is difficult to look away from a beautifully sheared, well-groomed, well-bred poodle. The dog attracts the attention of passers-by on the street and guests of the house, but if the pet is not cut, the enthusiasm will be replaced by the rejection of the overgrown brutal ball of wool. The dog's long hair will grow not only throughout the body, but also on the face, he will not be able to see, and sometimes open his mouth.
How to care
The animal is aristocratically beautiful, but it is absolutely not capricious, it does not require special care. Special attention is paid only to the wool of the poodle, it must be cut as it grows up (once in 1-1.5 months). That haircut emphasizes the royal posture of the animal. In adolescence, when the fur changes from child to adult, you need to comb your pet daily. An adult dog is enough to comb 1–2 times a week.
Bleklaya and dumped wool can tell about the pet's disease, this means that it should be shown to the veterinarian.
The rest of the care of the poodle is not complicated at all; it consists of the following actions.
- The dog is cut claws as they grow up.
- Once or twice a week they bathe, and the poodle is very happy about it.
- Periodically brush their teeth.
- Check the condition of the eyes and ears.
- Walking in the morning and evening for 1-2 hours. The poodle is active, smart, it needs physical and mental stress.
How to train
The dog has good intelligence and is very mobile. He would look forward to studying with him. Poodle is smart, injustice and stiffness will feel immediately. In dog training, the “carrot and stick” method, only “carrot”, is not suitable for him. For every success, you should praise, iron and encourage delicacy. A strict tone in education should be present, but only in the case and without insults. If a naughty dog breaks lessons, you need to lower the tonality and communicate with him in a confident, stern voice, but not to fall for crying and irritation.
Training should begin with obedience skills - once the pet has mastered them, further training will not be difficult. The dog will do its best to please the owner and be proud of his success. If the pet is cunning and stubborn, it means that the owner has not yet managed to win his trust, it will be necessary to make efforts to communicate with him.A poodle will never give up the opportunity to stay with the owner, even at the level of everyday communication.
To get an educated trained dog, they begin to practice with him from four months. He should be trained in commands and calm behavior during inspections by strangers. This skill will be needed at exhibitions and in communication with the veterinarian.
Patience and good attitude to the pet quickly gives its results.
Feeding
The poodle has an excellent appetite, and if you do not take control over its diet, it can be obese. Pets are not immediately accustomed to snacks and delicacies from the table. It is better to follow the diet and feed the dog at the same time. During feeding the puppy portions increase as it grows. The animal can receive natural food or industrial feed for medium and large mobile dogs. If you feed your pet with natural products, you should follow the recommendations of the breeders.
Meat products in the diet of an adult dog should be 35%, for a puppy - 45%. An aging dog is limited to meat menu up to 300 g of product per day.
- Of the by-products for poodles, a scar of beef, a heart and a little liver is preferable.
- Several times a week, the meat can be replaced with marine fat-free fish, which is boiled and removed bones.
- Dogs give porridge: rice, buckwheat, barley, seasoned with vegetable oil.
- To maintain a healthy state of the teeth, a couple of times a week they offer a raw apple or carrot to the animal.
- One third in the diet should take vegetables in boiled and raw. They are mixed with cereals and meat dishes.
- Puppies are given cottage cheese and other dairy products, fermented milk drinks are allowed in the diet of adult dogs.
