Sasyk-Sivash Lake in Crimea: features, where is it located and how to get there?
Sasyk-Sivash Lake is a natural landmark of the Crimean region. This reservoir is located in the area of the large Evpatoria bay, which is remarkable for visiting because of the original color of the water. It is partially white, partially pink.
Description and History
The time of formation of Sasyk-Sivash belongs to the ice age. This is a former sea bay, which eventually separated from the main water surface with a small bulkhead of land. It originated from the constant winds that cause strong storms. The name of the lake translates as "stinking dirt."Part of this lake is fresh, and salt is accumulating to the north. Because of it, a thick layer of brine formed on the surface.
Salt reserves of the lake - the main resource of the sharply continental zone. Local salt contains magnesium, bromine, calcium, potassium, carotene. Crimean lake has long been supplying salt to local regions, as well as remote settlements. Stocks of brine are estimated at 2 billion cubic meters.
Here are salt-mining factories, and the product itself was honored with awards at international exhibitions.
At the bottom of the lake there is useful hydrogen sulfide mud.
They are abundantly found in the northern part of the Crimea. Specific flavors extend over many kilometers around.
Lake Sasyk-Sivash covers an area of 75 square meters. km, the length of the water surface stretched to 14 km, and the widest place - 9 km. The depth of the reservoir is about 1.2 meters. No river arteries flow into the lake, inside the reservoir there are deep fountains, these objects are called griffins. Griffins, there are about 40 pieces, in appearance, their action resembles boiling.
The hydrological regime is regulated by a modern dam, which is divided into salt and fresh parts. To exclude the desalination of the reservoir there is a special collector. In winter, in the salt part, rarely fresh water falls. The fluid level in the salt part increases, destroying the dam. This threatens the possibility of its breakthrough. If a lot of fresh water gets into the salty part of the lake, its resources will disappear.
Local single-celled algae emit useful beta-carotene. The color of the water in the heat becomes bright red due to evaporation of moisture. Concentrated beta-carotene is positive for the immune system, it is a natural antioxidant. This vitamin is widely used in nutrition and cosmetics. The wonderful effect of the local mud was appreciated in antiquity by the warriors of Alexander the Great.
Black sludge successfully cures diseases associated with metabolic processes, cardiovascular diseases, eliminates problems with the musculoskeletal system.
Location
The pond occupies the area between Evpatoria and the resort of Saki.
Evpatoria almost adjacent to the lake Sasyk in the western part. Nearby to the lake village: Coastal, Limanny, Orlyanka. They belong to the Saki district. In part, this is the area of the Evpatoria City Council. Today the reservoir is included in the Sasyksky reserve, therefore it is considered an environmental object. On the map you can see a whole set of lakes in this area, they are included in the Evpatorian group. Near the lake there is a highway Evpatoria-Saki, there is a railway station "Ostryakovo".
The reservoir is characterized by an uneven elongated shape, gently sloping banks, which are partially steep only in the west. The rivers do not flow into the lake, the coastline is in some places deeply embedded in the water.
For example, Cape Red, which beams Nadezhinskaya and Temesh, even includes a whole quarry. There are several other large beams around the coast where inactive salt pans are located. Okhotnikovo has a Saki-Karyernoe highway, there is also a cargo railway station.
Two channels pass into the Black Sea from the lake, one is located to the west of the “Solnyshko” railway station, and the second is to the north of the Coastal village. The mode of discharge of the fluid is regulated by a special pumping station and pumping station.

When does it turn pink and why?
The change in water color causes phytoplankton. In a particularly large number of lake inhabitants produce a substance called beta-carotene, in May. At this time, the algae concentration reaches a million cells per milliliter of water.
It has been scientifically proven that the pink color of the lake water is due to the dunaliella salina alga. It is a single-cell microscopic organism that lives only in very saline waters. Its uniqueness is that, despite the harsh conditions, the body is able to produce nutrients. In the habitat of dunaliella saline, provitamin A, glycerol, and unsaturated fatty acids are found.
Biomass is successfully used in the food industry as a natural dye. The substance has been successfully used in the pharmaceutical, medical fields. Dunaliella saline may be used as a dietary supplement, and it is not a chemical and therefore does not have harmful effects.
A light pinkish tint appears on the water surface of the lake in April-May. During this period, single-celled organisms are just beginning to act, waking up after cool weather. The area around is characterized by special beauty, as the greenery at the lake is also updated.
In summer, the water surface changes its appearance and becomes purple-red. The water dries up in places, salt remains in these points, so the areas along the coast look snow white, as if in snow. Greens from the salt dries quickly, the place becomes like a desert. Later, by the end of the season, salt icebergs appear on the surface of the water surface, everything looks very outlandish. In the fall, particularly spectacular shots resemble the Martian planet.
Medicinal properties and contraindications
The pink lake in Crimea is an ancient balneal and mud resort that is world renowned. The mud here is silt, sulphide, of the seaside type, is the rarest treasure of healing resources. This lake is at the same time a place of rest, and a place of treatment of many diseases. The list of diseases amenable to treatment is large, but first of all they come here for the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, as well as for the treatment of spinal diseases.
Local mud is highly mineralized, has no analogues in the world in composition. The main indications are: injuries, psoriasis, pulmonary processes, gastrointestinal disorders, some forms of cerebral palsy, cosmetic problems.
Dirt is applied in the form of applications, wraps, intracavitary method. The procedures should take into account the general condition and type of the disease. For the full course of treatment is recommended 10 procedures, which are organized every other day. Therapeutic mud with mineral composition have a positive effect due to:
- good plasticity;
- large heat capacity;
- slow heat emission.
The mechanism of action of dirt arises from thermal, chemical, mechanical, adsorption effects. As contraindications to mud treatment are:
- acute purulent inflammatory processes;
- period of injury with violation of the skin;
- blood disorders;
- malignant and benign tumors.
Mud baths are also contraindicated in tuberculous diseases, infections, renal and hepatic insufficiency.
If there are contraindications in salt water, you can hardly swim, it is better to first consult with your doctor. In other cases, short swimming is allowed.
When treating it is important to choose the right method of application For example, when using local applications, the dirt is heated to a comfortable temperature, applied only to the painful area and covered with film and wool fabric. Intracavitary introduction of mud is possible only under the supervision of specialists in the hospital. With proper therapy, minerals begin their positive effects on all body systems. The positive effect continues after the mud cure, therefore, treatment with courses is recommended, during which the effect is stably fixed.
