The ancestors of the "French" were considered the Molossians - dogs, from which all dogozhnye. Historically, the first bulldogs were bred in medieval England. Brave dogs with an iron grip were used to bait cattle. The ancestors of the "French" were bigger and tougher. Officially, this breed was born in the XIX century.
According to one hypothesis, miniature pets were brought to France from England. However, French breeders claim that charming dogs were bred on their land. This breed instantly won the love and respect of the locals. Brave pets became excellent rat catchers and appeared in almost every family of workers. The “French” arrived in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century and acted as a fashion “accessory” for intellectuals.
Today, charming dogs are very popular among breeders of different ages and social status.
Description
Despite their diminutiveness, the French Bulldogs are strong and resilient dogs. The characteristic features of the breed include the following:
- stocky, muscular body;
- short powerful limbs;
- broad chest;
- massive square head;
- “Flattened” snout with symmetrical folds;
- snub nose;
- expressive eyes;
- thick short tail;
- well developed jaw;
- protruding ears that have the shape of a "bat";
- smooth shiny wool.
Adult "Frenchman" grows up to 35 cm. Males, as a rule, are larger than females. Pets live 10-12 years. French bulldog puppies are born blind and deaf. The traits of an adult dog begin to appear from 4–6 months.
And also at this age the color is formed - the fur of an animal gets a saturated shade.
Advantages and disadvantages
According to the breed standard, a pet can be brindle, fawn and spotty. One of the rarest colors is white. It is valid only if the edging of the nose, eyelids and lips is black. "French" with white fur are allowed to participate in exhibitions and competitions. And also white dogs include dogs with 1 or 2 dark spots on their fur coats.
French white bulldogs look very impressive. Charming pets with white wool have several advantages. For example, snow-white bulldog is quite rare, so no doubt attract the admiring glances of others. In addition, a pet of a bright color is quite noticeable and will not be lost during a walk. White French Bulldogs (suitable for the standard) enjoy tremendous success at exhibitions and achieve excellent results in competitions. Experts say that the representatives of the white color have excellent health.
However, a number of shortcomings in the "snowballs" is still present. These include the following nuances:
- light wool quickly gets dirty and requires careful care;
- dogs with white fur may have genetic diseases;
- some individuals with blue eyes (albinos) suffer from congenital deafness;
- with age, snow-white wool acquires a yellowish tint;
- "French" with white wool should not eat foods that contribute to the change of color (pumpkin, carrots and beets);
- Bulldogs of this color are rare, so their cost is quite high.
Important! Other colors that do not fit the standard (black, blue, white and blue, brown and tricolor) are considered defective.
Character and education
"Frenchmen" are inherent traits fighting dogs and at the same time, they are peace-loving animals. They get along well with children and faithfully serve adult owners. From the first days of the appearance in the house, charming kids begin to explore the world around them and can taste the pieces of furniture and shoes. Raising puppy needs to be engaged with a "tender" age. The psyche of the French bulldogs is stable. However, do not leave the pet alone for a long time.
The "French" love attention and do not tolerate separation from the owner. For dogs this is a big stress. Commands bulldogs remember rather slowly, therefore the breeder needs to show perseverance and patience. With the right approach, a miniature pet will quickly get used to the place, learn to cope with the need outside the apartment and stop spoiling things. Representatives of this breed are loyal friends and excellent companions.
Care rules
The French Bulldog is ideal for keeping in a city apartment - it does not require a lot of space. Pet bed must be made of natural materials. It should be located in a warm, dry place. Bulldogs do not tolerate drafts and easily catch cold. A pet's bed should not be in a bedroom or children's room, because of the physiological characteristics of the nasopharynx, the pet snores during sleep.
French white bulldogs require careful grooming. Pet must be regularly combed and washed. For the dog's fur to have a rich shiny shade, the breeder needs to purchase special shampoos and lotions. Special attention is required for the folds on the bulldog's face (sweat and dust accumulate in them). They must be wiped with wet wipes and cotton pads.
Cleaning the ears is enough 1-2 times a month. If a suspicious discharge or unpleasant pet smell appears, you should immediately show the vet. The "French" are not squeamish and love to pick up various items on the street. This "hobby" threatens with problems with teeth. For the oral cavity of the pet, careful control is important.
Walking with a bulldog is pretty calm. The animal is not distinguished by increased activity. In the heat and severe frosts of the "French" is better not to walk.
