A bedroom is the most important part of an apartment or house, as it is designed for rest and recuperation. Everything in it should tune in to peace and relaxation, while consistent with the taste preferences of the owner. Here the color of the walls, the texture of the finish, the comfort of the furniture and, of course, the quality of lighting, are important. What types of lighting can be used in the bedroom and what are their features, we will tell in this article.

What should be the lighting?

Bedroom luminaires can vary in many ways. It is not only in the tastes of buyers, but also in the appointment of devices: directly for lighting, for creating a special atmosphere, for reading, etc. Bedroom lighting should fulfill its main function - lighting. It should be convenient for you to dress in this room, find the right things, read books and magazines, and do make-up at night.

The light should not be too bright. Always a powerful light in the room, which serves to rest, will be at least inappropriate. The intensity of illumination should be easily regulated, since this parameter strongly influences the psychological state of a person.

Sometimes you want to be alone with yourself in the twilight, and sometimes, on the contrary, you want the space to shine as intensely as possible.

Lamps should be at arm's length and turn on without extra effort. This is especially important for bedside sconces, for example. If this is not possible in your case, then purchase lamps with a remote control.

In the bedroom you should not hang modern lamps in which a bare lamp is clearly visible. It is more suitable for a hall or a workshop in the loft style, while the bedroom presupposes the presence of various fabric hubcaps, mosaic lamp shades or simply elegantly-shaped ceiling lamps that gently diffuse light into the surrounding space.

Accommodation in the interior

If you own a bedroom of compact size, the lamps should not be huge, otherwise they will emphasize the small dimensions of the room. In large rooms, you need to light every corner, which means that zone and spot lighting may well be adjacent to one large light source.

The dimensions of most bedrooms still allow you to combine lighting of several types. The first is installed central lamp, which serves as the brightest light source. Local lighting can allocate several objects:

  • the bed is best to put the same light sources on both sides;
  • mirror in the bedroom;
  • work area, for example, a desk

Where possible, use sources of decorative lights. Nightlights, lamps in the form of flowers, LED strips, etc. fall into this category. The dim and diffused light they create is also very important - it creates a magical and unique atmosphere that brings comfort and coziness to the room.

Planning a lighting system is important at the beginning of the repair, as it can be problematic to change it in the process or at the end. Think in advance where you would like to see sources of light or consult an interior designer.

Varieties of lighting

The bedroom gives a wide scope for the owner's fantasy, since the sources of light here can be various.

Chandeliers

If the ceilings in the room are not very high, the chandeliers are mounted directly on it.If the distance allows, then the chandelier is hung on a chain. The height from the floor should be more than 2 meters. With such a landing, the light is scattered more widely. When the light bulbs are directed towards the ceiling, shadows appear on it, which does not always look good. To avoid this phenomenon, you need to pay attention to the design of the lamps. They are able to act as not just the main, but the only source of light in the bedroom, but this option can not be called successful.

Suspended chandeliers are subject to dust pollution, and therefore need to be wet cleaned. They are easy to break during children's games, and transportation of the device to the house should be as accurate as possible. When installing the chandelier there are certain inconveniences with the laying of wires.

Sconce

Glass and plastic wall lights are often used in the design of bedrooms. Lamps in them can turn on differently - with the help of a switch or a cord on its body. The second option is usually seen near the bed or near the mirrors.

Sconce involves the installation of not too bright lamps, otherwise the individual parts of the device can overheat and even melt.

Floor lamp

This is a lamp on the leg, which is placed directly on the floor in a convenient place. Usually for stability it is equipped with a tripod or a solid part that does not allow it to fall. They are good not only in the bedroom by the bed, but also near the armchair with a coffee table. There are models of floor lamps, which are equipped with a mini-table. Switching on is usually done through a button located on the luminaire itself, or on the wire that feeds it.

Floor lamps are best suited for reading books, since due to the design features of the device the light falls just down. The variety of styles allows you to find a specific floor lamp for any interior. Also a plus is that this additional light source is not very powerful light bulb, which means it saves electricity. The disadvantage of such a lamp can be called its relatively weak resistance. A floor lamp may fall if there are playful pets or children in the apartment.

Night Lights

They focus light on the ceiling or wall, creating a soft warm atmosphere. Typically, nightlight ceiling lamps have a dim color of yellow, green or white. Simple to connect, they have a variety of unusual forms, because most often such a light source serves as a "duty" in the nursery.

Dotted

This type of lighting is widely used when installing suspended ceilings. Each bulb has a small size, but in a group they create a spectacular atmosphere of diffused light in the room, and also allow you to simulate ornate designs on the ceiling that make the interior exclusive. There are options for 220V and 12V lamps - the latter come with a power supply.

On the ropes

Cable or track lights - model popular in youth interiors. Such suspensions are a constant high-tech or loft satellite of interiors. Such interiors are rarely used for the design of bedrooms, but still worth mentioning is such a modern option. They are good for large bedrooms with zoning, various floors and high ceilings. A series of swivel lamps is mounted on a wall-to-wall cable, a voltage line is drawn - and the stylish attribute of a modern home is ready.

Tabletop

They can create both diffuse and directional light depending on the model and its design features. A writing desk is the main place for a desk lamp, but some also place it on bedside tables.

How to choose?

Not everyone thinks about how economical it will be to use a particular lamp. The most accessible are point lamps and those that have an E14 or E27 base. If you want to save on electricity, then the lamp that you choose should be suitable for them. When reading the instructions for the lamp, pay attention to lamps which maximum power can be used with it. If this information is not followed, the light source may overheat.

Now consider the choice of lamps in terms of their functions and location.

Main light

As we said above, the main light source is a chandelier. For many of us, it is associated with childhood and comfort, as they used to be present in all apartments. When choosing it, keep in mind that in a suspended state, the chandelier should be at a distance of at least 210 cm from the floor.

Instead of one big chandelier, several ceiling lights located in different parts of the ceiling can be used as the main light.

A spotlight can even replace a chandelier if there is a lot of it. Many designs of modern stretch ceilings suggest a lighting scheme that gives maximum illumination. By the way, in America, many do not use chandeliers, preferring only floor lamps, wall lamps, etc. This solution is especially appropriate for rooms with low ceilings, so as not to focus attention on it.

The light at the head of the bed

He is helped to create table lamps, ceiling lamps hanging from the ceiling, bedside sconces, night lamps, long LED strips and spot lights.

According to generally accepted standards, the source should be located at a distance of half a meter from the bedside table and 120-160 cm from the floor. Then its location will not cause discomfort. And, of course, before buying a luminaire, you need to make sure that its light will not be sharply hit in the eyes - models with matte shades that dissipate too bright rays are ideal.

Light working or reading area

A sconce or floor lamp is well suited for the chair in which you like to read. If, however, reading usually takes place in a bed, then at the head of the head a night lamp is usually put in a suitable capacity. Workplace and computer desk - both the overhead light and the desk lamp should be illuminated. If zoning is conducted in the room, this will allow you to do work or read without disturbing other family members to sleep.

Lighting a mirror, dressing table or chiffonier

For the cabinet ideal small built-in lights. At least three lamps are placed next to the mirror: one at the top and one on each side. Dressing table is usually lit from two sides.

Night lights

Ideal option - not too bright and low-lying or outdoor built-in light sources that are easily included in the dark. This is convenient for entering or leaving the bedroom without disturbing the rest of the household.

Decorative light, which is popular today, helps to create zoning of the space, as well as focus on any part of the interior, for example, a picture or a set of them. The sconces, special lamps with directional light, spot lights and more help in this. Most of the space for creativity provide built-in light sources, tailored specifically for your interior. As a budget option for this purpose can be used LED strips, which are powered from the network, and from the batteries.

The peculiarities of decorative light are that it can be multicolored, it can specifically create openwork shadows, rotate or twinkle like a starry sky, or “run” as if on a beautiful neon sign. Not everyone wants peace and quiet in their bedroom at all times, so as an additional lighting they often install unusual original lamps like a touch screen from nightclubs or diskobol. All of them, of course, should have their own power and not adjoin the sources of soft light.

Whatever lighting you choose for the bedroom, it should always bring convenience and comfort to it, so that if you want, you can always have a good rest from the hustle and bustle of the working day and have a good sleep.
