Meeting a white dachshund on the street is not so easy. Despite the unusual and distinctive white dachshund, this breed is rarely bred in the breeding nurseries, and the exotic white color is considered a tribal marriage. Nevertheless, there are people who passionately want to acquire this breed. You can familiarize yourself with the rules of care, as well as the characteristics of a pet, by reading this article.

Appearance history

Long before the dachshund received recognition and was isolated in a separate breed, breeders were breeding dogs, regardless of their color. The main thing that interested breeders is the qualitative characteristics of the animal.

There is a lot of evidence that the white, black speckled dachshund was popular in past centuries.

Ancient paintings and frescoes with a dachshund were discovered. However, after approval of the standard, it was forbidden to breed a white color. Nevertheless, albino puppies are periodically born in dachshunds with the usual for us black or brown color. There may be several explanations for this.

  • Mating two dachshunds with marbled beige color.
  • The complete lack of pigment, which is often manifested at birth of a puppy. The reason for this lies at the basis of a genetic failure that does not allow the synthesis of pigments.
  • Extreme degree of spotting, which is expressed locally pigmented spots on the wool or a small amount of wool.

Despite the fact that the white dachshund has an exotic and unusual appearance for the average man in the street, the color of this breed is considered to be a tribal marriage.

Distinctive characteristics

Albino dachshund can be presented in one of three categories. The main indicators of belonging to a particular category are the weight of the animal and chest girth. For a standard white dachshund, the following indicators are characteristic - no more than 10 kg, about 40 cm, respectively. For a miniature, the weight is up to 6 kg, the chest girth is no more than 30 cm. For a rabbit white dachshund, a mass of 4 kg is characteristic, and the chest girth can vary from 20 to 25 cm.

Like ordinary dachshund breeds, an albino may have a smooth, long or tough coat. Depending on its type, care will be selected. Smooth-haired dachshund's hair is short and rather dense, so there is a feeling that the coat envelops the body.

The long-haired dachshund, despite popular opinion, has a long hair only in certain areas - in the greater half of the body, ears, legs and tail. But the face of a white dachshund is covered with short hair. For wire-haired representative is characterized by the presence of a rough undercoat on the face, which forms a kind of mustache and beard.

The body of an albino is elongated, the paws are inharmoniously short, but there is no distortion at all. The shape of the muzzle is wedge-shaped with a strong stretched jaw. The auricles are pronounced and hang down, walking on the cheekbones of the animal. The eyes do not have a large size, and their corners are slightly raised up. Eye shades can range from dark brown to amber, from light golden to azure blue.

Quite often, among the dachshund albino there are eyes of a bright red hue. The nose, as a rule, coincides with the shade of the eyes (may be brownish, beige, black). The white breed has a pinkish or white nose.

Despite the fact that albinos are prone to congenital abnormalities due to genetic failure, they should not give the impression of a weak or frail animal. The white-haired dachshund has strong bones and a well-developed muscular corset.

If the dog looks exhausted - this may be a consequence of the illness or disease.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any other breed, albino dachshund has its strengths and weaknesses. Of the exceptional qualities of white color, the following can be noted:

  • outlandish appearance;
  • mind, intelligence;
  • goodwill to other animals and to man;
  • perfectly finds a common language with the child;
  • many people have this breed having a sense of humor;
  • white dachshunds are excellent hunters;
  • have a natural sensitivity, and therefore are often used as a security guard in the apartment.

    Of the shortcomings of this breed are usually distinguished:

    • high risk of spinal injury or back disease;
    • the love of a dog to dig the ground can be a real test for the owner living on his own plot;
    • lack of proper upbringing contributes to the development of self-will and obstinacy in the dog;
    • there is a tendency to rapid weight gain and overeating;
    • when rude and inappropriate, the owner of the dog may harbor a grudge and make all sorts of dirty tricks.

    Content recommendations

    The rules for caring for a white-haired dachshund have no serious differences from the content of an ordinary dog. Albino needs to be combed with a special brush. With long hair, it is recommended to give preference to the comb with rarer teeth. So it will be possible to comb through the tangled wool much faster. Periodically, the dog will have to do a haircut, especially in the summer, so that the dog does not overheat from the thick fur.

    Tuxedo with hard wool breed will need a procedure such as trimming. It is necessary to help the animal to get rid of the old and dead undercoat. The fact is that among the dachshunds - albinos there are individuals that are not capable of shedding on their own.

    And if you do not remove dead wool in a timely manner, mats begin to form in this area and the surface of the skin becomes contaminated.

    Bathing is much more frequent. It is not at all associated with any biological features of the breed and is purely aesthetic in nature. The fact is that the white color is more susceptible to contamination than brown or black wool. It is worth noting that albino is extremely sensitive to any chemicals. Consequently, bathing with shampoo is preferably carried out no more than once a week, or only when heavily soiled wool. The rest of the time it is recommended to simply rinse the dog with warm water.

    Pet eyes and ears must be checked for contamination every day.. If necessary, rinse thoroughly with a cotton pad moistened with warm water. At the first symptoms of conjunctivitis, dachshund's eyes are recommended to be washed with furaciline solution. Trimming claws is carried out no more than 2 times a month. With age, the nails of the animal grow more slowly, and the procedure will be carried out less frequently. As a rule, albino dachshunds self-grind claws during the walk.

    The white dachshund will not take much trouble in the content and will become an excellent companion, provided that it receives the attention and love of the owner, which it needs very much. Individuals of this breed have a need for good food and regular physical activity. Albino dachshunds perfectly adapt to any lifestyle, including living in an apartment. However, the owner will often need to take the animal to the park or to a free lawn, so that the dog does not experience melancholy in the four walls.

    Cost of

    As mentioned earlier, in a pedigree nursery it is almost impossible to meet a white-haired dachshund.Even the fact that the dog has extraordinary external data does not contribute to the growth of its value. On the contrary, the stigma of a tribal marriage allows you to purchase an albino puppy for about 10 thousand rubles. But there are breeders who take the white color of the dachshund for an exceptional feature and increase the cost of the animal. Thus, according to some information, an albino puppy with all documents and vaccinations may cost you about 40 thousand rubles.

    How to choose a puppy?

    When deciding to start a white taxi, you must mention that with such a pet you will not have the opportunity to participate in exhibitions and championships. Also, albino taxis do not have access to breeding. An animal whose color is caused by a genetic failure may be the cause of many serious diseases in the future.

    In this regard, the acquisition of a puppy should not be spontaneous, but accepted taking into account all possible risks and difficulties.

    First of all, it is recommended to pay attention to the organs of vision and hearing of the puppy. Some white individuals develop blindness in childhood. If the breeder allows, take the opportunity to show your chosen puppy to the veterinarian. He is very likely to tell you about the probable pathologies of an animal, possibly due to albinism.

    Important! In no case is it recommended to purchase a white-haired dachshund by a private ad. When deciding to have a pet of this breed, choose only a trusted breeder who is ready to provide you with all the necessary documents about the puppy's origin.

      Discreet breeders sometimes allow themselves to flatten two white dachshunds in order to get albino puppies, which is strictly prohibited. Because puppies born in this way tend to inherit various congenital pathologies from their parents. Kids have poor health and need constant supervision. The dachshund, which is a tribal marriage, at birth in the nursery receives a special mark in the documents. Carefully read the documents of the animal when buying.
