- If your jewelry also contains precious stones, it is best to refer these products to the master for cleaning, because solutions that contain ammonia may damage some types of stones.
Cleaning Solution Recipes
There are many different recipes with liquid ammonia for gold purification. However, before proceeding with their preparation, it is advisable to follow a simple recommendation that is common to all cases and cleaning methods. Initially, you should wash the product in water with the addition of a soap solution. Thereby you eliminate sticking to the outside of the product pollution and dust.
By completing such a simple action, you greatly facilitate and accelerate the further purification of gold.
There are several ways to clean gold products:
- The easiest method of cleaning gold is to use ammonia in its pure form. It should be applied to cotton sponge and wipe the product, you can also use cotton swabs for this procedure. At the end of the cleaning, the jewel should be washed under water.
- Another fairly gentle method for light pollution - a solution of water and ammonia - for 1 cup of water, you must use 1 tablespoon of ammonia. Jewelry must be left in this product for half an hour, then rinsed under running water.
- Also a safe and gentle option for cleaning gold is considered to be a solution that includes ammonia, clean water and laundry detergent (you can use baby powder, since it is not aggressive, it lacks all sorts of flavors and other components we do not need).
The recipe for cooking is very simple - you need to take one teaspoon of ammonia, one tablespoon of washing powder, one glass of water. Mix all ingredients well. It is necessary that the laundry detergent be completely dissolved in water. The resulting solution will be particularly effective for the first half hour, while ammonia is not evaporated. With this tool you can clear products made of yellow gold, which may contain precious stones. Solution perfectly copes with old fat contaminations.
For another effective recipe you need ammonia, peroxide, liquid soap and clean water.
25-35 ml of peroxide, one teaspoon of ammonia and half a teaspoon of liquid consistency soap are dissolved in one glass of pure water. The resulting tool should stand a quarter of an hour. This recipe is not advisable to use for cleaning jewelry if they contain semiprecious stones, because hydrogen peroxide can adversely affect their condition - the stones can fade.
Gold should be dipped in the prepared solution and left in it for 10-15 minutes. After this, the jewelry should be removed from the solution and rinsed under running water.
What samples will withstand such processing?
Any piece of jewelry must be cleaned very carefully so as not to spoil its beautiful appearance. Which cleaning solution is better to use will depend on the type of gold.
So, for yellow and red gold, you can apply solutions, which include ammonia. And the concentration of ammonia in the cleaning agent must match the sample of the precious metal. For yellow gold, the following ratios should be used:
- 375 sample - up to 17% alcohol;
- 585 sample - up to 30% alcohol;
- 750 sample - up to 50% alcohol.
For red (pink, orange) gold:
- 375 sample - up to 15% alcohol;
- Sample 595 - up to 13% alcohol;
- 750 sample - up to 5% alcohol.
For other types of gold (green, white, etc.) the use of solutions containing alcohol is completely undesirable. Also, self-cleaning at home is not desirable for jewelry containing precious stones. But if you did decide to independently clean the product made of gold, decorated with stones, replace ammonia with ammonia - it is not so dangerous, it has a lower concentration, due to which it will not spoil the color of the stone and its faceting.
To prepare the solution, take six parts of water and one part of ammonia, you also need to add a little detergent. Jewelry should be held in the prepared solution for 15 to 20 minutes, during which time ammonia will cope with the dirt on the jewelry, but will not cause them any harm.
After cleaning, rinse the products thoroughly under clean running water.
As you can see, it is very easy to clean gold jewelry at home with the help of ammonia, the main thing is to properly prepare the cleaning solution. However, gold is a very capricious metal, sometimes it is quite difficult to remove pollution from its surface. And if you did not manage to clean the gold product at home from the first time, in such situations it is better to take the product to the jewelry workshop. The professional will cope with this task very quickly and efficiently, and your decoration will delight you further on for many, many years.
