Gifts are a very important part of our life. They can help resolve a conflict situation, bring one closer to someone, or even create a festive atmosphere. As you know, the best gift is the one that is made with your own hands or at least packed with these hands. Therefore, for all the importance of filling the surprise and its semantic load, in no case should we forget about the peculiarities of its design, because this is its “face”.

Perhaps the most popular packaging option is special wrapping paper. Let us consider in more detail the types of packaging material and the features of the packaging process itself.

Necessary materials

To pack a gift you need to choose the right tools and packing material. First of all, you need to decide on the type of packaging paper, choosing the right one that matches the nature of the event and the preferences of the person to whom the gift is addressed.

  • Glossy paper looks very impressive., which is characterized primarily by ease, which makes it possible to construct from it various variations of festive packaging. It is quite durable to withstand the load, but you should not expect increased reliability from it. This paper is made in different colors and with different patterns, and at the bend and edges of the light glare shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow. It is very often used for packing square boxes and gift options without them.
  • Kraft paper It may seem more durable and durable, because it is denser to the touch and heavier, and looks like old paper. But there may be problems with the packaging, because it is very wrinkled, and with strong loads it may even break. In general, the appearance of this paper resembles a vintage style, which, undoubtedly, can be used for packaging in retrostyle.

It is advisable to use it if, in principle, it is assumed a low-key, but stylish design, as well as if more reliable protection is required for the gift.

  • Tissue paper - It is a papyrus drawing paper, which is very airy, which can be used to give the gift an external sensation of lightness. In addition, the texture of this material allows you to wrap a gift of complex shape to give it a larger volume.
  • Polysilk is a film that willingly stretches and has a metallized coating. It is good to wrap something with sharp corners with it, and the ends of the packaging are perfectly closed with bows. Often used to knit decorative knots. The material is mostly monophonic.
  • Corrugated paper has a surface with a texture of large embossing. In this elegant packaging, you can wrap any items up to tubes or bottles. The material has a transverse embossing and ribbed shape, due to which it can stretch a little.
  • Crepe paper is a variation of corrugated packaging. It has a texture in the form of small folding, which is characterized by different density, and also has moisture resistance and elasticity. It is distinguished from corrugated paper by less folding, greater softness and a wider field of application.
  • Mulberry - The so-called “crumpled” paper used by designers came to us from Thailand. With a variety of colors, patterns and ornaments are often made on it.It is possible to steal something from a school herbar altogether and insert it into this type of packaging, giving the gift a more elegant and neat look.

In addition to paper, packaging may also require scissors or a stationery knife, paper clips, glue, tape and ruler, gift bows and postcards in the form of stickers.

Features of wrapping boxes of different shapes

In order to turn to the technique of gift wrapping, it is necessary to determine the shape of the boxes. The most popular are square, rectangular, round, oval, spherical and cylindrical. Less common are triangular packaging options, prismatic or any other complex shapes.

In addition to the form, it is necessary to take into account the size of the future surprise, as well as other nuances. Let's take a closer look at the features of gift wrapping and boxes of various shapes and sizes, as well as get acquainted with the phased scheme of how to properly wrap the boxes, and how to securely seal them.

Square and rectangular

To beautifully pack a square or rectangular box, you do not need to have great skills, it is enough to correctly follow the step by step instructions.

First of all, we need to determine the size of the flap of packaging material.

For this it is sufficient, using any measuring device, to mark the data obtained on paper. Cutting the package is necessary taking into account the indents that will be needed when fixing the package.

Next, unfold the flap, bend one edge half a centimeter and prepare for fixing, pasting a piece of double-sided tape into it. Then we place the gift in the center of the package.

We cover the opposite side and, tightening the wrapper, fasten its edge with the same double-sided tape.

Covering the edges of the ends (sides along the axis of the length of the box), pressing with your thumbs the upper edge of the resulting “tube” of wrapping paper.

We should have two triangles - the angles that we bend to the middle line of the box. This process is similar to one of the stages of manufacturing the aircraft.

We bend the formed corner and finally fix it with tape or glue on the end face of the gift.

On the other hand, do the same.

Then from the tape you need to make a bow, wrap around the box and mark the place of docking. Next, you need to cut off the excess tape and also fix the tape. In addition, you can use ready-made shopping bows.

And you can also wrap a rectangular gift in the way of packing “under the envelope”. To do this, take scissors, craft paper and glue or tape to fix the package.

We put a sheet of paper and put the markings diagonally in two lines, we also mark the triangles, which we will later be folded on the box.

We place the box in the center, bend the opposite ends of the wrapper. It should be noted that the paper width may exceed the box, so when we rotate the opposite triangles up, then we will have protruding paper on the sides. Her delicately we bend inward or cut.

Bend the two remaining corners and fix. Top tie up with tape, and fasten the bow.

Instead of kraft paper, you can use any other wrapper.

Round and oval

Wrapping a round or oval gift is heavier than a rectangular box. The necessary accessories for packaging will be about the same as for the packaging of a rectangular gift. However, before self-packing your gift, you should familiarize yourself with some important nuances. For example, learn how to do it according to the instructions, and try to do the whole process with some plain paper that you do not mind spending. We give an algorithm of action.

  • It is necessary to measure the height of the box, and take a piece of wrapping paper 2-3 centimeters wide more than this figure, and a little longer than the perimeter of the box.
  • Remove the lid, gently wrap the box so that the bottom can be turned a centimeter to the bottom of the box. Top tuck the remaining edges inside the box and also paste over.
  • At the bottom of the box they glue a piece of wrapping material of the corresponding shape, but slightly smaller in size, about half a centimeter.
  • The cover is pasted over with a piece of paper of the same shape as the cover itself, but, on the contrary, of a larger size, the protruding edges are turned over and fixed on the inside of the sides.
  • At the end, the box is sealed with a centimeter-wide wrapping tape, gluing it to the side of the lid and to the side of the box. Thanks to this method, the gift will look complete.

The surprise is ready, and you can safely please them to the one to whom it is addressed.

Wrapping Gift Boxes

Your gift will not always be in the box, so sometimes you need to get out of this situation, managing to pack it in other ways. For this you may need:

  • Packaging material - corrugated or plain gift paper with a glossy surface is most suitable;
  • adhesive tape or glue if you intend to fix the package without adhesive tape;
  • packing tapes and bows.

    You can very original and beautifully pack a surprise in the form of candy:

    • unfolding packaging material;
    • we lay out a gift in the middle of the wrapping material;
    • we wrap it so that the wrapper has a cylindrical shape, leave the ends on both sides by 15 cm and spin as a candy wrapper.

    Secure with glue or tapes.

    You can try to make a package of craft paper with scissors, a ruler and double-sided adhesive tape.

    • First we measure and cut out a piece of craft paper that will fit in size for our gift. One wide edge will be turned a centimeter, we glue a double-sided tape on it.
    • Then we glue our tape to the opposite edge of the paper to close this part of the future package.
    • We make pronounced edges for the package by gently bending the paper.
    • After that, we proceed to the formation of the bottom, for which we will bend our future package from the selected side.
    • Bend the part to the middle, first short and then long sides, securing them with double-sided tape.
    • We strengthen the bottom of the package with an insert made of the same packaging material, which clearly fits in size.
    • Bend the top, pierce the hole punch and pass through beautiful ribbons that will serve as handles. Done!

    You can make a rather unusual form of a gift from a paper towel sleeve. Or glued its semblance of cardboard or thick paper. Something small can be put into such an improvised box (for example, a case with a wedding ring, maybe the ring itself). We will need gift paper, scissors, a cardboard tube or a sleeve from a towel, adhesive tape and gift tape.

    • If we took the sleeve from the towel, it is necessary to cut it into two parts (across) and flatten so that the spindle shape is obtained.
    • On the sides of the tube, the edges of the resulting “spindle” are bent to the middle.
    • On the one hand, we fix the folds with scotch tape. We put a gift.
    • Cut out the wrapper from the gift paper. From above we decorate a ribbon.

    If the gift is small and flat, you can try to make an envelope. This will help us again scissors, kraft paper, tape and ruler:

    • cut a rhombus from a craft paper fragment;
    • we place a gift in its center;
    • we bend the formed triangles along the edges;
    • fix with glue or double-sided tape.

          There is another unusual way to pack a gift without a box.

          • Take thicker wrapping paper. Vertically we will put a gift in the center.
          • Cover the gift with the left and right half of the paper, without pressing the fold.
          • We fix the lower part of the resulting convolution, retreating at the end of one and a half to two centimeters from the end of the segment.
          • Lay the bundle to the side, smooth down the side folds. As a result, you should get the top edge.
          • Stitch the top edge of our packaging with a stapler or fasten in another way.
          • Cut off the excess paper, and decorate with small details.

          Sometimes expensive gifts in bottles are presented as gifts.

            For example, wine or good champagne. Such a gift, though by itself, looks very presentable, but still needs appropriate packaging.

            Make it simple:

            • we take a sheet of paper of rather large size, we wrap the main part of the bottle in it and fix it with tape;
            • take another sheet of paper, smaller, put it in the center of the cork, wind up the neck tightly, fix it with a thread or a tape;
            • the bottom of the bottle can also be covered with another piece of paper and secured with tape;
            • Additionally, you can decorate the bottle with bows and other external elements of the decor.

            Color solutions

            It is important to dwell on the colors of our wrapper in order to decide on the choice of harmonious color combinations. The primary colors used in the wrapper are yellow, orange, pink, purple and red. Blue, white, green, gray, brown, black, as well as silver, steel and gold are perfectly combined with them.

            • Yellow very cozy, it is the color of the sun and heat. Ideal for decorating gifts for children. Carries a slightly playful and very immediate emotional nature. Perfectly complemented by the decor of purple, blue, brown or green shades.
            • Orange color carries joy, happiness, but requires accuracy in dosage. It is combined with blue, yellow, brown, green, purple and red flowers, which opens up a lot of room for decoration of boxes packed in a wrapper of this shade.
            • Gifts Packed in Pink, perfect for presentation to girls and women, as they symbolize tenderness, lightness, romance. Pink tone goes well with different shades of purple and red. In addition, it can be perfectly shaded white decor.
            • Purple personifies the secret, therefore, suitable for sudden gifts that you can not expect. It goes well with white, yellow, silver and pink shades.
            • Red color most often it represents passion, fire, love, so you can wrap a gift for your soulmate in red. Harmoniously combine the red packaging can be with white, purple, silver and pink flowers.
            • Blue colour it is desirable to save for men, it is elegant and discreet. The dark blue shade looks great in tandem with blue, yellow, white, silver.
            • White color is good because it can be very freely combined with other bright colors, but its use as a primary color is ambiguous. For the most part, it is quite cold, and this can spoil the result from the gift.
            • Green color it is suitable in almost any situation, and the abundance of its shades allows maneuvering between different packaging options depending on the situation. Green tone is associated with material well-being. The darker part of the green spectrum should be combined with gold, yellow, white and orange. And its lighter part is perfectly compatible with brown, yellow and gray tones.
            • Grey colour gives the gift restraint and nobility. It harmoniously and looks very elegant with pink, red or purple flowers.
            • Brown and black colors although they are not the most frequent, they are not bad for gift wrapping, for example, for colleagues. Or for any "official" gift. In order to avoid "concentrated coffee" or "thick tar", it is worth diluting the packaging with silver, gold or other light decor.
            • Gold, silver or other metallic shade it is very undesirable to use independently, and it is more preferable to combine these colors with other cold tones.

            Especially stylish, they look like small details.

            Design options

            When we are determined with the design options, it is necessary to take into account many factors. For example, what is the gender of the gift recipient, how old is he, how close are your relationship, and what is the reason. Given the diversity of these data, the design of the same gift can vary significantly.

            For a start, it is important to decide what material we are still using, and whether we can somehow combine the materials in this gift. When we decided on the material (or materials), the question of color arises: which color will please the recipient more, and which one will be more stylish. Do not forget that the color of the packaging does not always have to match the shade of the gift.

            Is it worth decorating a surprise, in addition to the wrapper, with some accessories, decorative elements, or it is better to withstand the minimalism style - now let's figure it out. But before that it is necessary to clarify the general techniques.

            For example, with a minimalist version and a monotone dim wrapper, you can drag a gift with a motley ribbon. With a minimum of external decor, you can intercept the package with several bands or ribbons of different colors.

            Now you can go to the particulars. First, we discuss gifts for children. Children love colorful things of original design, therefore, as a gift wrapping material, you can use, for example, craft paper, which can be decorated with acrylic paint. You can make a complex and elegant picture, or you can simply choose some kind of background color, and then dip the brush in another color - and leave the naughty spray on our paper. And then you can go to another shade and do the same. For example, make a blue background, and then splash it with yellow and red drops. Or pick up any other combination according to the rules of combining colors.

            It is also very cool and unusual to use, instead of the usual wrapper of surprises for children, fabric bags, or to pack them as candy according to the principle described above.

            It's no secret that children love animals, so you can make an animal package. For this you need to perform several actions.

            • We put a gift on craft paper. Put up and down rectangles with a width of a gift, and a length of half its length. To the left and to the right it is necessary to postpone rounded rectangles of similar sizes.
            • On each rectangle from the edges it is necessary to outline two projections - these are the ears of the animal, and also this will fix the wrapper. In the semicircular fragments make slots, which will include "ears."
            • We decorate the resulting animal with a suitable decor in the form of eye-beads and antennae from a dark fishing line.

            This algorithm is relevant if we are talking about square or rectangular packaging.

            For men, you can unusually pack a gift in the form of a shirt. For this we need a white and, for example, a purple sheet of paper, red tape, tape. To make it:

            • you need to cut a sheet of paper with a length of 2 width and length of the gift, putting aside a stock of 3 centimeters
            • turn the material upside down;
            • bend the sides, so that the "shirt" is buttoned in the middle;
            • turn over the future “shirt”; bend the top of the paper towards you;
            • turn back the shirt, make her collar;
            • turn out the paper;
            • Bend the final work in half, tucking the collar.

              A non-trivial option is to drape a gift with fabrics; for this you need a handkerchief, single-colored or with a pattern. This Japanese technique is called furoshiki. It is good in its versatility, besides drapery will look advantageous on any shape. The packaging algorithm is something like this:

              • put a square-shaped handkerchief;
              • place a gift on its back;
              • tails located opposite, we connect, and we hide nodes inside;
              • we decorate fabric at discretion.

                  And a few more examples of what additionally can decorate the box.

                  • Tags. They look definitely stylish, and they can be filled with original text, making the gift even more original and individual.A tag can be made of cardboard by making a hole in it with a hole punch and tied, for example, on a ribbon or twine.
                  • Newspaper. The newspaper can be used to create an effect in retrostyle.
                  • Butterflies cut out of cardboard, the pieces of which are of different sizes. Wings perfectly amenable to folding and fixing with scotch tape.
                  • Thread. You can decorate a gift from threads from small knots until the gift is completely wrapped in the thread, leaving a tag and instructions.
                  • Buttons. Buttons give the gift some fervor and remind of childhood. Monochrome or colored buttons of various sizes are selected for the decoration of the gift and put them on the glue. Do not focus buttons on one side of the gift, because it will not look very harmonious.
                  • Pompons they hint at heat, which is important during the cold season, so the decor with pompoms is relevant, especially in winter. Ideal pompons come out of woolen thread.
                  • Snapshots. Photos give the gift individuality.
                  • Figures. You can use various simple and complex geometric shapes in the form of applications.
                  • Flowers. Especially true for the gift of a girl. They can decorate the box, picking up live buds or artificial plants.

                  In addition, you can add coniferous branches, as they will retain the original appearance longer.
