Fur collars give outerwear some solidity and attractiveness, as well as additionally insulate the thing, so these jackets and down jackets are very popular. But over time, even the highest quality fur is exposed to pollution and loses its original appearance.

For a thing to serve for a long time without losing its aesthetic and practical qualities, it is important to know how to clean the fur collar at home.

Dry way

Fur products are not recommended to be washed, because when wet, impregnation is washed off the material and the appearance of the collar deteriorates. A good alternative to the usual washing will be dry cleaning. For such cleaning use the following means:

  • Talc. It will help remove greasy stains and dust from the product. With this method of cleaning the collar should be sprinkled with a large amount of talcum powder, and then you need to rub the powder into the fur. After 10-15 minutes, talc must be shaken off the product, and the residues can be removed with a hair dryer.
  • Flour. It is sifted into a clean container. Fur must be combed, after which you need to sprinkle the product with flour. Next, you need to brush up against the pile to distribute the flour over the entire surface. Then, in a straight-back and forward motion, rub the flour into the fur for 5 minutes. After that, the collar must be knocked out and combed with a wooden comb.
  • Starch. With it, it is convenient to handle the collars, which come unfastened from clothing. The product is placed in a plastic bag and covered with starch. After this package must be shaken. Next, brush the fur straight through the polyethylene. When the cleaning is completed, the collar is shaken off the starch residues and thoroughly aired.
  • Bran (wheat or rye). In a non-stick frying pan over low heat, you need to heat up, not forgetting to stir, about 350 g of bran. The fur product must be placed on a clean cloth and sprinkled with hot bran. Leading palms against the pile, you need to rub the tool in the fur. Then the product is combed out with a comb with rare teeth.
  • Salt and semolina. Bulk products are suitable for cleaning short-nap collar. Products are mixed in a ratio of 1 to 1. Fur product is sprinkled with the finished mixture, after which the pile is combed with fingers and then with a brush.

Manka and salt, absorbed dirt, shake off the collar. The procedure is repeated until the flowable mixture ceases to darken and roll.

Wet method

Long pile or thick fur collars are more amenable to wet cleaning. In addition, wet cleaning is more gentle than washing the product. With this method of processing fur products the following means are used:

  • Gel for washing dishes. Detergent is mixed with a small amount of water. Beat the resulting solution thoroughly, after which a thick foam is applied to the fur with a soft sponge. Then the foam must be removed with a cloth moistened with water. The fur is thoroughly dried and combed.
  • Liquid powder for delicate fabrics or shampoo. The method of cleaning the product with a liquid powder or shampoo is similar to the method of using dishwashing gel.
  • A solution of ammonia and salt. In a glass of water, you need to dissolve two teaspoons of salt and a teaspoon of ammonia. The solution is poured into the sprayer and sprayed on the surface of the collar. So that the solution does not penetrate the skin, the product is turned onto a clean cloth with the fur down and left for 30 minutes. Then the fur is carefully wiped with a soft damp sponge, removing the remaining solution from the pile.
  • Petrol. With a cotton swab, gasoline is applied to the contamination without touching the undercoat. After cleaning the fur is sprayed with water from a spray bottle. At the stage of drying, the fur must be periodically combed.

Natural fur

When choosing a tool for processing the collar of natural fur, preference should be given to options suitable for dry cleaning. A full wash can ruin a product. When cleaning the collar of natural material is worth remembering a few basic rules:

  • Artificially colored fur cannot be cleaned using the wet method. Otherwise, the color of the collar may change or fade.
  • The collar should not be dried in direct sunlight or near batteries and other heating devices. Drying is carried out at room temperature.
  • In the process of drying, the cleaned collar must be periodically brushed - then along, then against the nap. Such actions will allow the pile to maintain its structure.

The fox collar is cleaned of dirt with talcum powder or baby powder, which does not contain oils. These products are able to fully absorb the fat from the arctic fox, but this method is only suitable for light fur. For dark products it is worth using a wet cleaning method - using a cleaning agent or a shampoo.

Fur from silver fox is cleaned by applying a cotton swab in the direction of a nap of gasoline or foam from detergent and shampoo. After that, the remnants of the applied funds are removed from the fur with a damp cotton swab. For cleaning products from silver fox, you can use semolina or starch.

The fur of coypu, otter or beaver is worse cleanable, due to the special structure of the pile. The fur of such furs is long, and the undercoat is rather short. All the dirt accumulates in the undercoat, which complicates its complete removal. This product can be cleaned using river sand.

Sand must be heated on the fire and rubbed into the fur in a circular motion. After a few minutes from the collar need to shake off the remnants of bulk funds.

Artificial pile

Faux fur is less delicate than natural. The faux fur collar can be washed by hand in a solution of warm water (30 degrees) and powder for wool. The product should be soaked in the solution for 5 minutes, after which it should be rinsed under a shower.

You should not squeeze the collar - the water must drain itself, for which the product must be hung. After drying, the fur must be combed.

The product made of faux fur can be washed in a washing machine, setting a delicate mode without spinning. Soap solution helps to remove grease stains from the product. Contaminated areas of the collar are treated with a solution of laundry soap, or the product is subjected to a neat hand wash.

To remove stubborn stains, you can use a mixture of gasoline and starch. To clean the product from dust, it is enough to use a regular vacuum cleaner.

We remove the yellowness

It is almost impossible to bring out yellowness from light fur. Even in dry cleaners can only offer partial removal of yellow spots and lightening the pile. At home, to get rid of the yellowness will help hydrogen peroxide. Water and peroxide are mixed in a 2: 1 ratio. The collar is wiped with a sponge moistened with a solution, after which it is aired and dried thoroughly.

Another tool that is used to remove yellow spots from white fur is potato starch. The collar is sprinkled with starch. Further, within 15 minutes it is necessary to carry out such movements as if you are erasing the thing manually. After that, the remains of potato starch are brushed off from the collar, and the fur is combed out with a special brush.

Special means

Many manufacturers offer ready-made kits for the comprehensive care of fur products. These kits consist mainly of special soap, cleaner and reducing agent. First, strong contaminants are treated with deep impact soap foams.

For removal of the remains of pollution, and also dust and fresh spots use a cleaner. A reducing agent is used to protect the fur structure. It is recommended to apply a reducing agent on the fur during the period of active wear. (with a frequency of two weeks).

The main advantage of this set is high-quality and gentle cleaning of fur. The only negative is the high cost of professional cleaning products.

Additional recommendations

To remove dust from white fur and add extra shine to the product, it is necessary to wipe the pile with a solution of the juice of one lemon into a glass of water. To clean the fur collar from traces of cosmetics, the contaminated areas are wiped with a swab moistened with pure medical alcohol.

Petrol will perfectly cope with fat stains.

It should be noted that only highly purified gasoline is suitable for such purposes. You can make a more benign remedy out of gasoline, mixing it with starch to a pasty state.
